Guest guest
Dear Ram N Misra, You can buy rudrasksha beads for planting from: Himalayan Academy Publication 107 Kaholalele Road Kapaa, Hawaii 96746-9304 and by contacting Shanmuganathaswami at shan (AT) hindu (DOT) org. They sell the seeds at about US $15 for 5 seeds. I didn't order any because I'm in Canada, and they wanted a cheque in US dollars also, which would cost me $10 or $11. The shipping was to be by normal mail at $4 and something, and the total to me was going to be about $33.50 Canadian for 5 seeds, everything included. Shanmuganathaswami said that they have had luck growing the seeds by putting them in a damp plastic bag and leaving them under the sink in the dark for 2-4 weeks. I am just doing that with some of the beads which I have already. Shanmuganathaswami said that drilling holes in the beads does not alter their potential for growth. I think this is because the hole is in the center of the shell, hopefully, and the seeds line the shell on the inside around the shell. After the 2-4 weeks in the damp plastic bag under the sink, you just plant the seeds in good soil. I might have bought the seeds even at the cost, but I've had no luck growing them so far. Also, two bilva I imported almost died, and they cost me, including the Canadian Import Permit about $70 or $75 Canadian. The Himalayan Academy Publications has seedlings also, but if you are not in the US you might require an import permit from your country. If you don't want to go to this expense, you might try first of all to grow some newer rudraksha seeds which you already have. Hope that this has answered some of your questions.
