I need a mantra for Sankalpa to begin my sadhana.

I post this message because I need help with something. I was doing yoga

for the last 11 years. I am 29, I've begun doing hatha yoga when I was

18 years old. After three years of doing hatha yoga only, and by the

grace of God, I've attained illumination. This occured in 1998. I

continued practicing hatha yoga until in the year 2000 I knew Krishna

devotees and started also doing bhakti yoga.

 

In 2001 I went to India and lived there for four years (I am from

Argentina). In my first months in India, in Pune, I took the habit of

going everyday to attend pooja in a temple in a cremation ground. We

became friends with the pujari/guru and I asked him for initiation. The

guru gave me gayatri initation and taught me other mantras.

 

Soon after I moved to Calcutta and lost contact with my guru. In

Calcutta I furthered my knowledge about all the yogas and learnt that

when one wants to begin a sadhana, it's important to do something known

as "Sankalpa". I think you know, it's a prayer where one tells god about

his/her intentions about being steady in the sadhana and such.

 

I've returned to Argentina in July 2004. For reasons of study and work I

have stop my sadhana. Now I want to begin anew. But the point is, I

searched the Internet for Sankalpa mantrams and the mantras I have found

are very different one from the other.

 

The mantrams I've found are these:

 

Vishnur om tat sat, om adhya jambudwiipe,

Argentina deshe, Sundara Vayu pradeshe,

Zamitra nagare, ahaMkArya mandire,

Mesha maase, krishna pakshe,

bhRguvAra tithau, Vyaghrapada Gotra,

sri Kavi Guha kritaitat, sri jagannätha kämah,

pŸjä karmähang karishye

 

and:

 

`According to the Indian Solar Calendar, in this particular

year of ...... in the month of ......, in the season .......,

on this day of the brighter/darker phase of the moon, at a time

when the ...... constellation is ruling ; I am performing this

particular homa to invoke and please this deity under the

guidance of Sri Kalki & Amma for this myself, born under gemini

sign of the zodiac and ruled by the ..... constellation.'

 

and:

 

..........naama samvatsare (put the name of the year here. all years

have names, but you can put the date)

..........rutau (the season goes here, there are six seasons)

..........maase (the month, there are twelve months)

..........pakshe (the fortnights wether dark, krushna or bright,

shukla)

..........shubh tithau (the period)

..........nakshatra yuktaayam (the constellation ruling on the day)

..........gotrod bhavasya (your gotra, lineage)

..........nakshatre (constellation at your birth)

..........rashow jaatasya (moon sign at birth)

then you state what you want and end with

poojam karishye (i am doing this puja)

 

 

I have a few questions:

 

1) I want a sankalpa mantra where I can tell God about the Sadhana I am

starting. Are the two mantras above suitable for such a deed?

 

2) In the case you know another mantra for sankalpa, can you post it for

me?

 

3) In the case you already know the sankalpa mantra, and if it is like

this one:

 

Vishnur om tat sat, om adhya jambudwiipe,

<name of country> deshe, <name of city> pradeshe,

<name of place> nagare, <name of ?> mandire,

<name of month> maase, <name of forthnight> pakshe,

<name of period> tithau, <name of lineage> Gotra,

<name of sadhaka> kritaitat, sri jagannätha kämah,

pŸjä karmähang karishye

 

4) the fourth question is: How are the Ÿ and ä pronounced. I

conjecture the ä is pronounced like a strong A, but the Ÿ, how it

is prononunced?

 

5) Do you see any errors on these mantrams, if so, can you correct it?

 

6) What I will appreciate the most, is if somebody who knows about

Sankalpa Mantra will give me a mantra for sankalpa that I can use before

beginning my sadhana.

 

If you help me I will be very thankful to you.

Welcome Kavi guha to our satsang. I am sure someone religious would be

able to tell u the exact mantra.

 

Since I am more spiritual than religious, i may advise you as per my

practical experience that these type of mantras may have some ritual

values but if you are going to start sadhna, you can simple pray Lord

Ganesha, through mantras or through simple plain language that He

should remove obstacles from your sadhna path....and believe me it also

does wonders.

 

The main purpose of all these sankalpas and mantras is to pray god

to help us....and god understands our mind well
