Malefic Shani question

I recently met with a vedic astrologer who told me that (due to

malefic Shani) I should not only avoid wearing blue sapphire and blue

topaz, but also avoid wearing any blue stone and also avoid amethyst

as well. Is this excessive, or do those who have some knowledge of

jyotish agree with avoiding the wearing of all blue stones and

amethyst as well (amethyst always has been one of my favorite stones).
