Guest guest
Scholarships to Sanskrit's rescue Manish Sirhindi Patiala, July 4: IN the age in which English has long established itself as a world language, a number of students at the Government Mohindra College are opting for Sanskrit course, all thanks to the scholarships being offered by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (deemed university) of New Delhi. In the last three years the Sansthan has given scholarships worth over Rs 99,000 to 57 students. Dr D I S Brar, principal of the college said that this had encouraged more and more students to opt for the language. He said that even this year the institute awarded scholarships to 33 students of the college who were given Rs 1,750 each. He said that the students of the college not only proved themselves at the national level but had also shown keen interest in development of the Sanskrit language following which they were given the scholarships on the basis of the their past performance in academics. Dr S K Kaushik, lecturer in Sanskrit said that it was a matter of pride that so many students were now coming up to study the vedic language. He said that there were plans to encourage the students opting for Sanskrit in the undergraduate classes as this would not only bring the youngsters closer to their vedic heritage but would also help in preserving the language, which was slowly losing its charm among the young. He said that credit for this development goes to the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, which had come forward to promote Sanskrit in this part of the country. http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=191336
