Dear Dr. Bhate,

I have inserted my responses in ur mail below.

U had quoted :

During the ancient Aryan Vedic period meat was consumed after animal sacrifice to the Gods. This slowly changed with the rise of Jainism

and Buddhisim, since their founders advocated the principle of ahimsa

or ''non-violence''. The Brahman priests, who used to exploit the

people and advocated animal sacrifices as offerings in the name of

religion, also began to preach Vegeterianism since it gained much

popularity in India. They began to embrace Vegeterianism by

following a vegetarian diet themselves. However due to this constant

exploitation of the people, these Brahmin priests soon began losing

their status and respect in the society, which once placed them in

the highest strata.

Yashendra- During the ancient Aryan period the Brahmin priests were

the most evolved ones in the society. All this horrible things which are written

here have been wrogly ascribed to them. Sage Vasistha, Bharadwaj, Agastya , Angira,

Lomash, Shringi, Dhauma etc. and sages & priests like them NEVER did all these things.

The Brahmins were the fulfillers of the society, without any self-interest. They were

complete rules by Satva-guna, and exercised complete control over Rajsik

& Tamasik tendencies. And fire-sacrifices or Yagya NEVER included animal sacrifice.

The Sages & priests never used animal sacrifice because its deeply tamasik. Animal sacrifice

Or use of meat is an Asuric (demonic)- trait, exactly opposite to the Vedic/ Aryan practices.

Such wrong practices did creep in, but long after the Mahabharata war. Buddha appeared

and re-established the true vedic practices. In Aryan tradition u always see emergence of a Prophet

Personality whenever there is any degeneration in interpretation ( or misuse) of Vedic knowledge.

……………………………………………………….

The practice of offering a sacrifice in Yagya exists even today, and

instead of animal, a coconut is offered. To see a yagya personally

you can visit a place called Sakuri, about 5 km from Shirdi (near

Nasik). The uniqueness of this yagya is that all priests are women! Every year Yagya is conducted there on , Gurupournima day (falls on 11thJuly 2006 this year) also on Makar Sankranti day (14th January), on 8th day of Navratri in Aashwin as well as on Ramnavami day.

Yashendra- Yagya is a complete science. The moment anyone uses animals it becomes

Asuric & Tamasik, which is anti-life & anti-growth. It will give rise to negative forces, annihilating

what is good & pro-life.

Nothing wrong in having woman doing yagyas. Women used to do yagya during the purely Vedic days.

Even today u can see this in Gayatri- pariwar of Acharya Shri Ram Sharma & Satsang Deoghar.

However, personally speaking, I think that most of the modern priests, whether man or woman, are unfit

to be priests, as they do not meet even the minimum requirements.

……………………………………….

In some tribal villages, the village vaidya/tantrik/mantrik is seen

exploiting tribals even today. We read stories where not only animal

but even a baby or child is sacrificed by some illiterate couple to

have issues of their own!

Yashendra- What these ignorant tribals or other people do cannot be ascribed

to Vedic culture !! These horrible people do horrible things which should be stopped

at any cost.

………………………

The purpose of including a paragraph from a website was to bring out

that animal sacrifice was an exception, only in a Yagya. But in

Ramayana, Rama and Laxmana were specifically invited to kill demons

who were disturbing yagays by throwing animal flesh in holy fire.

Yashendra- This example itself shows that animal sacrifice in yagya is a Non-Aryan

thing !! And Shri Ram belongs to a very late Vedic period. He appeared as a Prophet to root

out anti-Vedic things from the society. Just like Buddha did, many centuries later.

………………………..

Your point is well taken, it is india who originated vegetarianism

and even Pythagoras followed it according to above site. Those who

were following vegetarianism were called Pythagoreans! (swaveda.com)

Many other philosophers appear to be following it and it appears that

philosophy is a good subject for vegetarians! Leo Tolstoy, George

Bernard Shaw,Leonardo da Vinci, Henry Salt, Gandhiji and others.

Yashendra- Pythagorus was born thousands of years after original Vedic period.

Vegetarianism is existing since millennia before him. And, whether its Pythagorus or anybody else

In the world, seekers of true knowledge will always find that non-vegetarian items or food are harmful

to human beings. Because, they are deeply Tamasik. And, as all Ayurveda ppl know, Tamas creates

diseases in mind and body both.

Any Tamasik had & has no place in Vedic / Aryan society.

Remarks- This article seems to have been written by some person educated under western thoughts

and western version/ understanding of history, and the writer lacks any understanding of Indian Spiritualism.

Regards- Yashendra
