In the year of 1963, I went to Hubli reluctantly to please my mother, with the least knowledge that from there I was to reach my Divine Master. At that time, I was an ardent devotee of Bhagavan Maharshi and I wanted to settle down at Tiruvannamalai.

However, destiny played its role. I married a devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba and came to live at Hubli. At a traditional Indian wife, she trod her husband's path unquestioningly.

With the passage of time we had children. Our second child did not walk and talk at the normal age. All this time, my wife got some vibhuti of Sri Sathya Sai Baba from my sister, who was already a devotee of Swami, and gave it to the child without informing me. To our utter surprise, one day she stood up and walked without any support. I attributed this to a miraculous healing brought about my Bhgawan Ramana maharshi and felt greatly indebted to Him.

At that time we had our first contact with Bhagavan Baba. He had come for a tour of northern Karnataka. On the way He visited the Karnataka medical college in Hubli. The college had never before, and has never since, witnessed such congregation. Bhagavan Baba visited our house and created vibhuti for our daughter, at which she uttered the first word, "Baba!" Our benefactor stood revealed! I was stunned to discover that it was Sri Sathya Sai Baba's grace that was responsible of the cure. This brought me to Bhagavan Baba.

Let me add, that the food prepared in our small home became sufficient to feed at least fifty people after Swami peeped into the kitchen and bestowed a magnificent glace at it.

There have been several instances when Baba has revealed that He had been taking care of our lives. One of the earliest, concerns a troublesome surgery. There was little hope for the patients life on the operation table in view of continuous bleeding after the removal of a cancerous tumor, I,as a young surgeon, could little afford to lose the patient under these conditions and prayed to Baba intensely. The bleeding stopped instantly and the patient survived. The power of maya is so strong that I forgot his incident until Baba revealed it Himself.

In one of our first interviews at Prashanti Nilayam, Swami created warm Sathyanarayana prasad for my family and me, and asked my daughter's name. When she answered "Naina' Baba sang our spontaneously:" naino me prem dhar, vachno me amrita dhar, sadguru Sai mera jeevan ka adhar." This overwhelming grace settled the issue of who the guru was.

I submit before the readers in all humility, that in my several years of government service as a surgeon and professor of medicine. I was absolutely honest and maintained the highest traditions of both the professions. I had little idea when going through the profession, and specializing in obstetrics and gynecology and surgery and anesthesiology, that I would be granted the boon of serving at the Lotus Feet of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Presently, I work as Swami's instrument at the students' hostel at Brindavan and the Sri Sathya Sai hospital at Whitefeild and Puttaparthi.

Let me mention that I am highly myopic,with a power of (-16) and (-14) in my two eyes. Can anybody imagine my being a surgeon? Swami has promised me that He will give me special vision whenever and wherever I am operating. All my associates and assistants have directly experienced this. Every time i operate, it is Swami who operates through me. I pray during the operations that He should keep my brain centers under His control, so that the go is not aroused. Many a time, when I have a difficult case, Swami gives directions clearly in dreams, and dictates the detailed steps of the operation. Later when He asks about the case, He pretends not to know anything, enveloping me all the time in His powerful maya.

I have seen patients go inside the interview room on a wheel chair or a stretcher and come out walking. I have seen examined myriad cases where the patient has been cured with Swami's vibhuti and sankalpa; only absolute faith is necessary. I have also experienced His statement, "your cancer is cancelled", bringing people back from hopelessness to life. Once while waiting for a train at the Whitefeild railway station, I dozed off on the platform.

I was awakened by a christian lady who said, "Get up. Christ has come, Why are you wasting time sleeping? Sai Baba has given sight to a blind man, just as Christ did in the past!". His protection from accidents is to be experienced to be believed. If we incessantly think of Him without desiring anything in return, then He fulfills the promise given in the Bhgavad Geeta by constantly protecting us.

He gives us tremendous courage and confidence to face all difficulties in life. As Bhgavan Himself has empathized on many occasions. His miracles are insignificant compared to the most radical transformation of individuals. His stress on service and trikarana shuddi (purity of thought, word and deed) are most important.

Is there anyone in the world today who gives free health care to the poor in a super specialty hospital? Is there anyone who gives free education from the primary school level to post graduate? Is there anyone who can give pure and protected drinking water to villages and towns in Rayalseema within eight months? Neither the central government, nor the state government have done things on such a gigantic scale.

His actions reveal His love and selflessness. In return, He expects nothing but service to humanity with love. Let us serve the poor and the needy. That will please Him the most.
