Guest guest
FROM: Natabara das Hi everybody, browsing throw the postings of this list we find some interesting information to talk about. In posting 28 we find the following and below to it I give my dristhi, (aspect or point of view). I have put in bold those words that are relevant at present to my thinking and between brackets {.} there are some notes. ** 28 The Vedic Divisions of Time /Kali YUGA "Richard Shaw Brown" <rsbj66 Sun Sep 4, 2005 11:21 pm Verse 8: A conglomerate of 15 laghus is called a nadika (30 minutes). Two nadikas equal a muhurta (hour), and six or seven nadikas equal a prahara (approximately 3 hours to 3 and a half hours, depending on long or short days), which is a fourth of a day by human calculation. {3 hours = 1 prahara or 12 hours = 4 praharas} ** Astrologers are supposed to become experts in astronomy and in astrology. Here there is a posting about the divisions of time and in particular we should see the mention of the 4 praharas within a day. One important use of these praharas is found every Thursday when the daytime (from sunrise to sunset) is divided by 4 praharas. The last prahara of every Thursday is called Jupiter Barbela. During Jupiter Barbela advice is given of not travelling, doing business or doing shopping as its spirit spoils the time. It is better to stay indoors, ‘kill time’, or meditate, to avoid unpleasant reactions. It is a bad omen to see or hear someone coming to us during Jupiter Barbela because that means that the person is likely to bring some problems in the near future. I suppose that a way to get protected against inauspicious incidents is to wear a suitable gem or a rudrakhsa. A way to find out abot the times for Jupiter Barbela is by using a spreadsheet, in which a programme can be written of dividing the time from sunrise to sunset for your local place, by 4 times. The last segment of time for every Thursday belongs to Jupiter Barbela. You can observe the omens around you during that time and see the reactions unfolding later on for you. I never open my email box, send emails or use the telephone during Jupiter Barbela, and also I try as well to remain at home until after the sunset of Thursday when the daylight ends. One of the best things to do during Jupiter Barbela is just to try to chill out or to meditate. Of course, there are sometimes when one may be obliged to travel or preach and even work during Jupiter Barbela. In those cases let the gods be tolerant.
