The new token system rocks.

My husband and I decided that the new token system is brilliant. People just can't freak out about how many people Amma will hug until their turn comes. We can't obsess about it. Everyone seemed so much more relaxed about the tokens. When we were hosting in San Ramon I was really impressed by how smoothly it went.

Also, the programs seemed much smaller and more relaxed than recent years. Anyone notice that in LA and New Mexico? It was really nice.

So D might have 1-4, but E will only have 1, and then

F could be skipped, and then G will have 1-3. It

seems completley random. Some letters will be up for

an hour, and then they'll skip over the next 2

letters.

Challenging indeed!

I was surprised by the small crowds too. I noticed I could take 2 or

more steps rather than the usual 1/2 -1 steps during Devi Bhava before

I bumped into some one else !!!

Yes the new token system totally rocks, I am hardly bothered by those

signs now - the less the distraction the better - I had even forgotten

that they existed till I started reading posts here.

In fact I was totally stumped when someone asked me in the dining hall

what token was on - I mumbled something like may be A, B but

definitely not Z - before this I was pretty good at tracking the

numbers! Actually people seemed proud of their tokens rather than

being disappointed may be because there are just 26 alphabets rather

than a discouraging number like 5500-5600 !!

In San Ramon, the first Devi Bhava was indeed smaller.

I think this was mainly because it listed as

"Tentative" until the about 2 days before. I was doing

greeter seva in the dining hall for the overflow and

people didn't turn up until like 7:00pm.

However, I felt the Retreat and 2nd Devi Bhava had a

larger turnout.

We went to LA just for the Devi Bhava, and I felt it

was pretty crowded, I think the fire marshal came in

once. During the Atma Puja, there were 2 or 3 overflow

rooms, one in the dining hall below, the 3rd floor and

another terrace somewhere. Definitely more than last

year. This time in LA, they had these huge posters of

Amma on many prominent streets announcing her tour,

that definitely helped bring in a lot of people.

Yes, the new token system has taken the stress out of

the waiting game. BTW, did anyone else notice, Amma

having the clicker in her right hand during Darshan?

We saw it during many of the day programs in San

Ramon, and during LA Devi Bhava. In LA I wanted to ask

Amma what my number was, but then She distracted me by

playing out an entirely different Leela. I'll write

about it in a different message shortly.

Dear Prajna,

I also noticed that everyone was more relaxed with the new token

system. Someone told me that Amma said we were all too hung up on

numbers like how many people came for darshan in the morning on

Tuesday, etc. The other aspect of it is that the head honchos can't

think "We handled 1400 people this morning" or "7000 people for Devi

bhava." Somebody must now the number because the food has to be

figured out but it is almost a secret.

We did have smaller groups in San Ramon this year. Why? Who

knows!? The MA Center is really not large enough for the numbers

that have been coming so maybe Amma just did a little crowd thinning

somehow.

It was nice I will selfishly say.

Everyone was much more relaxed about the new token

system. Once I realized there was no hope, I really

enjoyed the freedom from trying to figure out when my

token would be up. Also, it was nice to not have the

panic about not being in the hall at just the right

time, and missing my number and having to beg the line

seva folks to be let in! Everything was just much

more fluid this year.

With the exception of the retreat and the second Devi

Bhava, the MA Center seemed much less packed than it

usually is when Amma is here. I keep feeling like it

is the water receding before the wave hits, and next

year will be crazy! So I focused on making the most

of all the time I got to spend so close to Amma this

year. It was such a blessing! Though, it was also

nice when the second Devi Bhava was packed, and the

energy was high (and I still managed to get close to

Amma).

Speaking of high energy, wasn't that amazing when the power went out during Amma Amma Taye at the end of the first DB? Everyone just started singing louder, and when it came back on, the swamis hadn't missed a beat. I guess that's what happens when there is a surge of energy...
