Guest guest
Dear List, The person who first posed the below question to Uttara, has written me privately and I am sending response onto list. ___________________________ Dear Patrice, RE: Accepting Jyotish //Most of remedies of Jyotish have some so called Hindu origin or may use deity of Hindu faith. I feel you believe that jyotish has cosmic origin or basis. how do you convince those who have different faith to follow to accept Jyotish// Lot of people gave excellent input. I think my basic question is lost '' when people of other faith find it very funny to accept how can there be so many Gods in Hindu religion. In Jyotish every planet sub planet or constellation have some deity attached to them and remedies may involve around them. how can these people of different faith accept Jyotish. _____ Thanks for your note. I hoped my example with my girlfriend who was a nun would perhaps help in this question you've asked. It's a very good question. The Vedas, from which Jyotish comes, actually predate Hinduism. And my understanding of Hinduism is that it has a belief in One God, "Realities Ultimate Oneness". This is the same God of all religions. The worship of different "gods" is very similar to in Catholicism where people pray to different Saints and to Mary, etc.. Even the rosary in Catholicism is similar to what is used for chanting in Hinduism. In Buddhism also this is very similar and people have statues of Buddha, pray to Buddha, and to ancestors, etc.. This is so in most religions. These are different energy forms all representing the One God. I don't know, but perhaps to use Jyotish fully, meaning accepting the remedies, a person may need to be open to understanding energy healing, the subtler forms of healing and health, etc... For instance I practice homeopathy and the Bach Flower Remedies, as well as Chinese herbs, which are all forms of energy healing. As are other techniques such as acupuncture, different types of massage, etc. But for these remedies and systems to work, it doesn't matter that they accept this or not, whether they believe in them or not. However, I think most people do believe that there are energies we are all influenced by, as well we all experience feeling these, such as when there has been an argument and then we enter the room, etc.. Energies are very powerful and we use them all the time in our relationships as well. It may be true that someone isn't aware of this, or have intellectual knowledge of this, but this is a common and shared experience of all. Even in using email and the Internet, we seem to pick up the 'energy' of the person and get a feel for them beyond just what is their written word. This ability is extremely important for our safety as well and has something to do with those who survive different situations in life and go on to have children, etc.. and pass this ability on. Also someone who is open to Jyotish, must understand the planets have different energies, which is what we are reading in the chart. So the remedies in Jyotish are to open, to smooth and improve the energies between us and a specific energy, a specific planet. Each culture has its own traditions of these energies. An example for instance, for Moon in the western culture, the energy would perhaps be Mary for someone with a Catholic background. As India, and largely the Hindus, were the keepers of the Vedic tradition and this knowledge, they were able to accept, as well as further develop and understand this system of 'upayas', remedies. In Light on Life, the authors write, "One reason why Jyotish's texts were written in Sanskrit is that Sanskrit helps facilitate holistic thought. The Seers taught that Sanskrit's very sounds are sacred, and they held that Sanskrit speaks directly to the soul of living creatures, transmitting, as does music, a universal meaning which does not depend on its composition or lyrics." They also write: "The Vedas, which have existed in their present form, unchanged, for thousands of years, represent an even older tradition, which evolved centuries earlier...As times went by new forms of sacred knowledge sprang into being from Vedic roots.. "The philosophical and religious ideals introduced into Indian culture by the Vedas have been amply fertilized by a wide variety of influences, both local and imported, and the immense mass of spiritual, ethical and religious vegetation which has sprung from these Vedic roots has come to be known popularly as Hinduism." Usually many people in the west do not know much about other religions and don't have accurate information or exposure to understanding other religions. This is not a block of any kind for using Jyotish, as in the case with my friend who was a nun and not comfortable "chanting to Moon." Instead I asked her to chant to Mary, which is the same basic energy. And she had done this as a nun. More and more people are open to different healing systems when the use of medicine or other western medical practices are not able to help them, or perhaps they choose not to take much in the way of medications, etc.. In truth we must understand when there is a block or imbalance causing problems in our health, a lack of the natural flow of energy in that area of our bodies. There are different methods for improving this and removing the block or imbalance, or preventing it from further development in the first place... Energy systems of healing are very strong and have worked for thousands of years. They are also more gentle in that they don't leave more problems from the chemicals or other residues in the system causing or furthering other imbalances. Also they can be not as intrusive as some western methods. Music is also sometimes used via its energies. In the west in the last few hundred years doctors are revisiting the old texts and materials and work of past great doctors, of Hippocrates and others and also developing again energy systems for healing - such as Dr. Hahnemann with Homeopathy, and Dr. Bach in the early 1900's with the Bach Flower Remedies. It is said by many of today's wise/learned/seers that mantras, and other chanting are extremely powerful in our current times for healing. This kind of information is everywhere for someone interested and I don't think it is a case of needing to convince anyone. But I understand your thoughts regarding the different gods or just even chanting to planets, and some people are uncomfortable with that so it's best then to use a different form of the same energy that they are comfortable with. Also foods contribute as well. For thousands of years people have understood the effects of different foods on the body. In our scientific world it has been explained often by scientific terms and valued mostly from that perspective, but food, and the energy we consume and take in via food, as well other energies along with the food, also contributes to us, which is another reason why some people choose to be vegetarian. I hope this is more along the thoughts you were looking for in response to your question. Best wishes, Patrice
Guest guest
Dear Patrice, I think this is a beautiful and comprehensive response. There is so much in what you have painstakingly posted here that is very useful for all. I agree too, that it is in the in-depth study and understanding of the Vedic Culture some 8,000 years ago (that i related to in my response) that really is the key in understanding the energy and plausibility of practicing ones faith (religion) of choice in our modern world today. Whether one is of Eastern philosophy or Western. The Vedic culture and ways of practicing their mythologies, medicine, psychology and reactions to their world has as it enveloped into India from the Indus Valley as Hinduism, to be the base of all the major religions practiced today throughout the world. Beautifully written and explained. Thank you Patrice. Guest guest
Dear Patrice, This is an excellent response. I agree that the remedies are nothing to do with any religion. Once we understand the core, the remedies could be customized to suit any religion. Your asking the nun to chant Mary instead of Moon is a perfect example. Hence, the crux is to undertand the influence of planets on individuals and see what imbalances have been caused and what remedies could be administered to fix them. There is nothing religious about it. Well explained!
