Romi I totally forgot to tell you how much I love that word "snarkyness" what a great word. It is so descriptive and succinct! What part of the country does it come from and what is your definition. Can it be good and bad?

I started using it when I moved to California and

discovered that all my friends were that! :) Which

is fine because I am often too.

Urbandictionary.com gave what is for me (and pals) a

more accurate definition than Dictionary.com.

Urbandictionary describes it as being more of a

positive thing, whereas the more traditional

dictionary websites describe it as a negative. I

think it can be both, depending how frequently the

snarker snarks, and what the intention was behind the

snarkiness.

In my opinion, there has to be a bite to it, otherwise

it's just boring old mean/whiney/complainy/etc.

Urbandictionary.com says:

snarky: describes a witty mannerism, personality, or

behavior that is a combination of sarcasm and

cynicism. Usually accepted as a complimentary term.

Snark is sometimes mistaken for a snotty or arrogant

attitude.

snark·y (snär'kē)

Elsewhere I found: ETYMOLOGY: From dialectal snark,

to nag, from snark, snork, to snore, snort, from Dutch

and Low German snorken, of imitative origin.

Other sources say it is basically a British term that

Americans have appropriated. That sounds about right.

How's that?

With love,

Romi
