Guest guest
Dear Temba, I'm not upset with you; I am looking for clarity. I'm trying to understand why Aikya was not at all mentioned in the article. Also why Sweta was not mentioned in the article about bringing the folks from Santa Cruz to see Amma. I got the impression that perhaps you had been less than clear with the interviewers. If I'm wrong, I apologize. It's wonderful that Amma has given Her blessing for the idea of the homeless center. Based my experience of Amma in the past 11 years, I think that's what it is…....permission for you to pursue your dream. The next step, as you mentioned, will the practical level process that you will go through with the board of directors, Dayamrita Swami etc. Amma always says that the rules and procedures have to be followed. Then when a plan has been made and worked through perhaps the vision will become reality. And that will be a great day! Then people can be invited to contribute donations to the MA Center designated for the project and it will begin to manifest. May Amma continue to bless your efforts! Love in Amma, Amalia Ôm Amriteswaryai Namah
Guest guest
This homeless shelter idea is a great idea and Themba is the guy to run it, or at least have a major role in running it. Like all other such places it will have to meet all the requirements of state and local government, not to leave out the MA Center. If you can envision something clearly in detail, it will happen. So I think this homeless shelter idea can be worked on some more so that the picture is more complete. Where is it going to be, for instance? Wherever it is is good, in my opinion, but getting some folks to actually look at where it could be would be good. In my mind, finding one that is already in operation but may close and taking it over would be the way to go. I always hear how hard it is to get approval from neighbors to have such a place near them. It's the "not in my backyard" syndrome. If a place is already operating, that skips that entire problem. The site would already be approved in terms of zoning, etc. Who knows why I think this but something tells me that Themba would like to have this place in California, preferably not too far from the MA Center...within 35-40 miles. One thing to do would be to call the counties--Alameda County and Contra Costa County and find out if there are centers serving the homeless which are in danger of closing for some reason. Just talk to various organizations that run shelters and get the wor out. Sooner or later, the word will get back about a place. Finding out where such a center could be would focus lots of practical planning around how much it would cost, where would the clients come from, where the services are that the clients would need, etc. Soon you would have a grounded operation to talk about, something someone could fund, etc. Aikya Just some musings... Guest guest
More brainstorming on the homelessness issue -- The SF newspapers have at least one or two journalists/editors who are very concerned about the issue of homelessness... I think some reunions were organized for street people that were displaced during the new freeway ramp construction projects, and stuff like that. It certainly has been increasing due in part to the astronomical jump in housing costs. People living out of their cars etc., without a net. I asked about the place because a social worker friend of my mother's, in Philadelphia, has started a project working on a small community that mixes housing for homeless men with some assisted living (meals) & mental health support. Something more than a shelter, and maybe even more than a halfway house. She's just in the grant writing stage. There are several "heart-centered god-centered) housing options there for women, I think run by Sister Scully (not sure of her name) and Project HOME, and our friend is modelling on that. A lot of the housing spaces have been things like old convents or schools that the Roman Catholic Diocese owns but has less demand for these days, and so is willing to consider other humanitarian uses. But in her 40+ years of experience working in poor communities in Philly, she's come to the conclusion that a lot of people need a bit more of a support net than just a bed at night. And she's realized that there are way more beds for women and children then for men, especially those dealing with mental illness. Sigh. It's making me think of that story from the beginning of tour, the seven year old girl Amritavarshini, who went to Mother crying about the terrible state of the world. I really don't understand how some people can give in such grandeur -- three or four homes, private planes, more money than they can spend -- while others suffer with a lack so great that the affluence of the successful still looks like greed and hoarding. much love, Prashanti
Guest guest
dear sister.it is okay that you were upset with this child.its okay that you didnt understand and wanted clarity.. temba can relate..AMMA and saint francis both say to seek to understand rather then to be understood..this is why AMMAs sun apologized to you beacause he could feel your disappointed.he hopes that it comforted you.. you may think that its so easy getting all this attention, but allow this child to get vunarable and say that it can be ruff at times..if AMMAs sun didnt have faith that he has and HER GRACE to support it he would have lost it already... please understand that the same thing that you experienced about sweta and aikya not being mentioned on the articles this child did as well.. even before AMMAs sun new you were disturbed he reached out to the website poeple and told them that they mentioned his name to much and that others should be included... sweta was there when they interviewed this child .temba almost came to tears ..as they were interviewing temba they told him that AMMA had the story that this child told of his prison experience read in front of the entire community in AMMAs ASHRAM IN INDIA..he went on to tell this child that the woman reading it could not finish because she came to tears... this is where AMMAs sun was at when they spoke to him... >"amalia_darling94804" <amaliadarling (AT) hotmail (DOT) com> >Ammachi >Ammachi > Circle of Love/Center for Homeless >Sat, 24 Jun 2006 01:17:19 -0000 > >Dear Temba, > >I'm not upset with you; I am looking for clarity.
