Guest guest Posted June 20, 2006 Report Share Posted June 20, 2006 You know, last year in the early Spring I offered to come for a few months and pay for at least food (a plane ticket and food would be all I could afford at the time) and my offer was rejected. Not to brag, but I can do just about anything and everything pretty darn well, and was willing to work 24/7 for anything they needed done. I was willing to even use what little credit I have to purchase specialized tools or items should the need arise, since I've found most advance requests for such are rejected by those who are lazy and cheap in charge (spiritual groups or otherwise). Later that year, when they advertised again for Karma Yogi's, I couldn't afford either ticket or food but could spare a few weeks time, and I couldn't find a sponsor. It's unfortunate that unlike some non-profits, MA Center seems to lack reliable "angels". Angels are financial donors that can be contacted on a moment's notice with a need for money by the organization. Guest guest Posted June 21, 2006 Report Share Posted June 21, 2006 This has done a lot of good like that in the past and it should and will continue, each individual choosing whether or not to contribute at the time. When people do seva, it is supposed to be volunteer. Not only do people not get paid for doing it, they usually have to pay for the oportunity to do it. If they will be on staff during Amma's tour, they pay their travel expenses. The people who live in the ashram at the MA Center have to have outside income which they usually earn through a job. They pay rent and do seva. Today I learned that even the swamis pay for their transportation whn they go on tour with Amma. If people do worthwhile things as seva dedicated to Amma, no one pays them a salary. That's not because that is Amma's policy.
