Raja Utsav celebrated with fanfare

Statesman News Service

ROURKELA, June 16: "Raja Utsav symbolises creativity, productivity,

planning and purity,"Mr BN Singh, managing director, Rourkela Steel

Plant, said during Megha Mallhar, a programme organised by the plant

to mark a unique festival of the state at the Civic Centre here

yesterday evening.

Describing the Raja celebration as a scientifically proven method of

enhancing the productivity of the land, Mr Singh drew a comparison

with efforts made to improve the plant's productivity.

"The way people of Orissa have upheld their culture and customs for

centuries is praiseworthy. A society that nurtures and nourishes its

tradition and heritage will continue to flourish and prosper and

Orissa is a splendid example of this," he said.

He added: "The love of the people of Rourkela for the culture and

heritage of the state is evident from their enthusiastic

participation in the function."

Mr SS Mohanty, ED (P&A) spoke about RSP's commitment to making

Rourkela a centre of excellence in the filed of culture and

elaborated on "Project Samskriti" launched by the steel major to

further the cause.

Over the last four years, RSP has charted out a cultural calendar

for the city and the itinerary is being maintained with sincerity.

And the celebration of Raja is a part of that exercise.

In fact, Megha Mallhar heralds the cultural calendar of the city and

it is a big hit with the residents of the Steel City.

The enthusiasm was evident yesterday evening as the audience was

glued to their seats.

Many people did not get a place to sit as the Civic Centre was

bursting at the seams. The programme was on for more than three

hours.

While Mr Narayana Pati, DGM (protocol and town services), delivered

the welcome address, the evening started with the lighting of a

traditional lamp amidst chanting of vedic hymns. The dance and music

performance by different troupes was an added attraction.
