Hello I am new to this group and have an interest in Ayurveda. I am trying

to gather as much information as I can and learn it's ways. I have a

physical problem that maybe someone can assist me on. I am a Male 46 years

of age, 5' 6" tall and weigh 230 Lbs. I have lost approx 60Lbs in 18 months

mostly by changing my eating habits and exercise in the form of walking and

Bicycle riding. I have looked at all of the Dosha information and assessed

myself a Pita/Kapha. Here's my problem, About 8 months ago I awoke in the

morning and noticed that the left side of my face was completely dead. I had

feeling but no movement. I went to the local Dr. and he said I had Bells

Palsy, He ordered a brain scan which came back fine. He wanted to prescribe

Steroids & facial shock treatments and I told him no. I have since

recovered but not 100% I still can't whistle or totally close my left eye or

raise my left eyebrow. I also at times get a ringing in my left ear but it's

not constant, some days I have it & some days I don't. I have recently

started doing Sesame oil body massage & have been taking Mongostien juice to

help detoxify my system. Does anyone know what else I can do to remedy this

problem?

Thank you very much for your time.

Hi Mike,

Your post reminded me of several patients suffering

from Bell's Palsy. Co-incidentally all of them were taking St John's Wort in varying doses for depression and I suspect Bells Palsy symptoms may be one of its side effects, as when they ceased taking this herb the symptoms subsided.

While many anti-depressants make hormones go

out of whack and increase tendencies for obesity, some work the other way too. Although you lost this much weight

through diet and exercise, is it possible that you

may be taking this herb or equivalent?

Could you please clarify if this is the situation?

All the best,

Jane
