Guest guest
Michelle - do you want an Ayurvedist to answer your question? An altar is somewhere where you place your inspiration, no one else can tell you what that is. It is something that when you gaze upon it takes you towards the great heights you long for. Which ever Master or Saint that inspires you most should be represented there to lift your heart, whichever colour vibration excites you most can be there to uplift you and shine within you, and whichever perfume takes you in towards a sacred space can be there, to take you. My own altar includes a Buddha, (both a white porcelain seated figure and a robust laughing brown one) a picture of the Christ, a piece of amethyst and of clear quartz, a crucifix to remind me that we exist where the line of spirit and earth meet, and Sai Baba's Nag Champa incense because I love it, there are other keepsakes and momentoes too - but they would have no significance to yourself. I also have a beautiful picture of Yogananda in the room, an exquisite painting of Mother Mary, my spiritual books, Bhagavad Gita, the New Testament and many others, close by. I hope that helps, I would have written this to you privately but could not access your address, with love Jane michelle <michellelangston2001 > wrote: after meditating and practicing hatha yoga, I want to explore the spiritual side of yoga and have been doing much reading. A beautiful yet simple altar could be a bouquet of flowers you picked on your morning walk or it can be an elaborate montage of pictures, murtis, flowers, lights, representations of elements, and anything and everything of importance. Probably the most important things regarding your altar is your own intention and the ability of the items to maintain your attention and focus on God. When you are collecting the items for your altar keep those two things in mind. Think about why you want to have an altar, how it will help you, and what items will help you to remember your intention. Placement of your altar can also be important and your decision on this will also be dependent upon intention and attention as well as your living space. Usually altars are placed in the north or northeast section of your home, but do what is practical for you. I know that as long as you keep these things in mind you will create a beautiful and personal space in which to welcome God into your life.
