It is a condition which is not normally recognized by the madical fraternity as a problem. It is more common in developed nations where there is very high emphasis on personal cleanliness. On our skin, there live and thrive numerous kinds of organisms like mites, bacteria, fungus, yeast, etc. The bacteria and fungus compete for space and the bacteria prevent the proliferation of fungus on skin. Excessive use of antibiotics, in form oral form or body and hand wash, eliminates even the usefull bacteria in and on the body and thus leaves enough space for the yeast and fungus to multiply. When these fungul infections enter the blood stream and digestive system, they cause several kinds of irritative and inflammatory problems in digestive tract, joints, scalp, urinary tract and even in genitals. In the usual allopathic treatments there are no sure shot cures for candida. It lies as untreated as pimples and dandruff are. Lots of claims but no cures. Whereas in ayurveda, there are many effective treatments for such ailments. Most of them include the use of products and byproducts of Neem, the humble Indian cure-all tree. These include intake of two teaspoons of juice of neem leaves every morning, application of neem oil on effected areas, etc. But, a proper supervision by an experienced ayurveda practitioner is necessary. Over-cleanliness can be a problem too. No wonder that a doctor's family is the sickliest of all. There was a research done in UK about the increasing cases of asthma and related disorders among the new generation of young people. It was found out that this generation was brought up with regular use of vaccum cleaners in their homes. The exposure to dust and other allergens was minimal in the childhood. As a result the body could not develop immunity against them. Now when they started venturing out in the world and started being exposed to these allergens, the respiratory system could not bear it. Some amount of dirt and dust is also necessary for a healthy life. Nature demands balance, in everything.
