Rs.1 crore ornaments donated to Tirumala temple

TIRUPATI, JUNE 8, 2006: (TIRUPATITIMES.COM)

A princely offering of three body cover ornaments made of gold for the

processional idols of Lord and his divine consorts, total weighing about

10 KG, worth about Rs. one crore was made at the famous hill shrine of

Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala by a devotee from Chennai today.

Temple sources told TIRUPATITIMES.COM that the offering would be used to

cover the bodies of the centuries old processional idols of Lord

Venkateswara, Sri Lakshmi and Sri Padmavathi from neck to the toe at the

hill temple.

The covers which look like the replica of the body of the idols would

protect the ancient idols from the side effects and abrasion caused by

ghee, honey and other liquids including incensed water used during the

celestial baths and other worship performances conducted to the idols

often in the shrine, the sources added.
