Guest guest
VadaSambhasha Vedic way to carry out discussions In Vedic times one of the methods of obtaining knowledge was to conduct discussions or to perform VadaSmbhasha. We see that with the use of web this has become primary source of knowledge for many. While putting forward our point of view on the groups one can take the help of ancient science called VadaSambhasha. Types of VadaSambhasha There are two main types of VadaSambhasha. 1)Sandhaya Sambhasha 2) Vigruya Sambhasha Sandhaya is originated from the word Sandhi that means to join or to be friendly with. So this way of discussions are carried out in a most friendly manner. The participants enjoy the discussions and defeated person does not feel bad nor the winner feels proud of winning. The main aim of such discussions is to enjoy the knowledge or Gyana. Guru-Shishya parampara strictly follows this way of carrying out discussions. But it is not always easy to carry out discussions in this manner. So it is said that participants should follow some protocol in carrying out discussions. We can say that Sandhaya Sambhasha comes under influence of Guru and Budha. Essentials of Sandhyaya Sambhasha 1)Participents should never be angry at each other, 2)should not be jealous or covetous, 3)should put their point of view confidently and without fear but politely, 4)should be ready to spend time and space without mentioning that (s) he is short of time, 5)should not fear that others will catch us in our own words, 6)should ask doubt with open mind with pure intention of seeking knowledge, 7)should not use the terms meaning of which is not clear to you. 8)should carry out discussions in a very friendly manner. 9)should not write to please somebody and avoid sycophancy Naturally, this was the most appriciated way of performing the Sambhasha. In the vedic period people used to conduct such Sambhasha. In modern times we have Seminars or to carry out Sandhaya Sambhasha. Vigraha Sambhasha Vigraha means to fight or to detach. In this way of discussiosns two people get engaged in the Sambhasha with the intention of winning over each other. Usually people with oposite opinion will get in to this kind of Sambhasha. Like, we see many a times discussions on the topics like Charakaraka 7 or 8, Karakamsha in Rashi or Navmansha chart, Ista Devata and its Rupa. Jyotisha is para or Apara vidya. All these and many others are the topics which figure in these discussions. Such type of discussions are Vigraha Sambhasha. If these discussions are not carried out in Vedic way we see 'Ban' and 'expulsions' from the groups. So it is very essential that we should be aware of Vigraha rules. We can say that Vigraha Sambhasha comes under the influence of Guru and Mangal. Essentials of Vigraha Sambhasa When two or more people get engaged in Vigraha Sambhasa there are some points which they must keep in mind. NigrahaSthana: Nigraha means limit and hence point of defeat. Both the parties should agree on limit of the discussions and should be aware of point of defeat. Usually, according to NayaShahstra of Akshapad muni, there are 22 such points of defeat but as far as Jyotish discussions are concerned,we may follow Acharya Charak who has formulated five such points. 1)PratigynaHani: To prove a point when one goes way from the basic premise put forward, this is Pratigyna(Basic premise)Hani(loss). Like if one starts the discussions with the basic premise that there are 7 charakaraks and later on in the course of discussions accepts the 8 charakaraks. This is point of defeat beacuse of loss of basic premise. 2)Abhyanunya:If the other person charges you and instead of refuting the charges levelled, you as well put same charges on the person then this is a point of defeat. As when you put same charges you accept the charges against you. Like in a discussion one puts a charge that "you tend to follow Parashara only when it suits you". Now instead of refuting this charge by proving that you always follow Parashara, you as well put up the same charge on the other person then you are defeated. 3)Hetwanter: Change of basic premise. The discussions might have started on Charakaraka but in the middle of the discussions changing it to Mahapurush yoga in Varga charts! 4) Arthantar: Change of meaning. While discussing a principle of Jyotish, starting the discussions on Adhyatma or spirituality. 5) Ateetkala: Distrubing the sequence of arguments. After the event happening, saying that I had predicted about the event in the private discussions. Errors comitted While putting up the arguments one usually commits some errors. 1)Nuyna(Less): Telling less or producing insufficient information. Or forgetting the crucial main points about the arguments. Like in the arguments of Ista devata forgetting to clarify what is Ista devata;devata that does Ista(in all forms) to jatak . or the devata that is Ista to jataka. Or telling that jyotish accepts creation based on PanchaMahaBhutas but not making clear how according to Jyotish Bhutas are created like other Vedic Darshan clarify. 2)Adhika: In the course of the arguments giving same argumets again and again or putting unwanted information and subjects. 3)Anarthak: Giving irrelevant examples and misguiding the course of discussions. Like in the course of discussions telling the regional stories and beliefs; 4)Virudha: Giving the opposite sentences for the accepted principles of the discussions. Like when discussion is on malefic nature of Rahu telling that Rahu is good & benefic and entire kundali can be based on Rahu. Or when Benefic nature of Guru is being discussed telling that Guru is bad or malefic. Tricks adopted Participents do which is usually termed as jugglery or Chala. There are some types of juggleries that are taken into consideration in VadaSambhasha. VakChala or jugglery of sentences: If one says that Vakra graha is powerful. Here the person may mean Vakra as state of the graha but you can force him to consider as Mars as one of the name of Mars is Vakra. Or one can say that increase the strength of Dhatu indicated by planet for good health. Now here Dhatu as well means Dosha in Sanskrit and so forcing the sentence to mean increasing the strength of Dosha! Or if one says that there can be no better adviser than jupiter/Brihaspati then telling that the same Brihaspati who was adviser to Deva Indra is originator of Charvak darshan and Charvak darshan is non-vedic or Avedic darshan. So should we accept Brihaspati's Avedic darshan? We can learn a lot by following Vedic VadaSambhasha and avoid the discussions to deviate. So in the discussions one can take care of these points and carry out the discussions and increase the knowledge of one and all. It is not that people in this group do not follow these rules. On the other hand almost everybody is more learned then me. I just wanted to give one way to enjoy discussions on advanced/basic topics carried out by big names. Thanks a lot for your Time and Sapce.
