I'm still flabbergasted and my jaw is still hanging open in surprise... and I'm still shaking my head in disbelief. After all this talk about ripening the ego to make it into a fruit fit for God's offering plate. After all this talk about self-importance getting "in the way" of sadhana. After all this talk of... you name it. And now, Tommykins, you're going to go on about "advanced" states? How many retreat bracelets urge folks to "be a beginner, always"? How many times has Swamijji urged us to heed Mother's message: "You have to be a zero to be a hero?" How empty does a conch have to be in order to blow a horn through it? Someone help here please. I think it is amazing that in spite of the differences, everyone seems to have a true respect for each other, and I am sure Amma would be very happy with this. When I read Tom's posts, I definitely get that Sai Baba flavor from his statements. Having studied both Sai Baba's teachings and Amma's they are all leading to the same goal, just being presented differently. Sai Baba's teachings are more cut and dried, more forceful in nature. (much like Tom's way of presenting his ideas) Where Amma is sweet and loving in her presentation of her teachings.(Much like brother Temba's way of presenting his ideas) Some will be drawn to one way of learning, others will be drawn elsewhere. But when Tom made this statement, "Temba's at a very different stage than I, the future will show this in time." a little teaching of Amma's on the ego and humility came to mind right away. It took me a while to find it. I have certainly read this elsewhere but just found it in the book "From Amma's Heart" page 29, under the heading "No Claims" In this teaching the questioner asks Amma what she claims to be? Is she an incarnation of the Divine Mother or a Self-Realized Master? Amma say she claims no such thing. As a matter of fact she says that anyone claiming to be self realized (Advanced? Farther along the Path than others?) that in itself is proof that they are not. Those who are advanced have no such claims. They always set an example to the world by being HUMBLE....I think that says it in a nutshell. Brother Temba, I am always aware of your sincere loving energy and humility whenever you are posting to this list.
