Can you help me find a Sai quote?

Sai Ram Brothers and Sisters,

Some years ago I read a quote from Swami which, later on, inspired me to write a song entitled "God Lives In India."

It was a quote in which Swami seemed to be expressing that when asked, we should not be afraid to say that Sai Baba is God.

The quotation went something like this: If someone asks you where the Lord can be found, give them the answer that rises from your heart. Tell them the Lord can be found in the Prasanthi Nilayam.

I am trying to locate the exact quote as well as when, and where, Swami said this.

If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Much Sai Love and Peace,

April Bailey

Dear April Sai Ram! I have not come across the quotation to which you

are referring yet, though I read quite a lot of Sai literature. It is

very interesting to learn, though, that Bhagawan Baba has declared that

He is the Lord, meaning that He is God.So far I have read many

discourses and books where Bhagawan Baba says "I am not God; You are

God." To quote one example - On the occasion Of Guru Poornima at

Prasanti Nilayam in July 1970 ,in the presence of thousands of devotees,

mostly Americans, Baba said in His Address- " Do not interpose the

formalities of Perceptor-Disciple or evenmoreso, the altitudinal

distinctions of the God-Devotee relationship between you and me. I AM

NEITHER GURU NOR GOD. I am You and You are I. This is the Eternal

Truth. You are the waves; I am the Ocean. Know this and be free. BE

DIVINE." Nonetheless, Baba must have said that the Lord lives in

Parthi otherwise you would not have read about it. Bhagawan does not

mince His Words; we know. Hoping that other subscibers will help you

trace the source of the quote, please let us have the words of the song

"God lives in India" and give us more details; is it a bhajan? where can

we find the record, if you have recorded. Thank you Love At the lotus

feet of Sai Anita

Sai Ram April,

Quoting from 'A Compendium of the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba' compiled by Charlene Lesley-Chaden, the following:

"While speaking to a Dasara gathering in 1974 Bhagawan spoke of devotees who fight shy of acknowledging that they worship the Sai Form and frequent Prashanthi Nilayam, 'Follow the Master, face the devil, fight to the end and finish the game', He advised. He said, "Be firm, be bold. If anyone quieries, Does God exist? say Yes. If he asks Where, do not attempt to cloud the issue and escape responsibility quoting scriptures that declare that He is everywhere. Tell him, 'God is at Puttaparthi'". From Loving God, N. Kasturi Page 312.

I hope this answers your request.

With Light and Blessings,

Sai Ram Christine,

Thank you so much. This, indeed, answers the question. I have, often, wanted to share, with the audience, the inspiration for the song, prior to singing. However, I had not been able to locate the quote.

After your message arrived, I opened my copy of "Loving God," and found that I highlighted this quotation almost 20 years ago.

Once again, many thanks.

Om Sai Ram

Dear April

Here is the quotation you were looking for with references.

You wrote " ... I am trying to locate the exact quote as well as when, and where, Swami said this... .The quotation went something like this: If someone asks you where the

Lord can be found, give them the answer that rises from your heart. Tell them the Lord can be found in the Prasanthi Nilayam....".

The terrific thing I want to share with you is that I found it so easily (no more than a second really) by trying the "Search Engine" under "Sathya Sai Speaks" on the www.srisathyasai.org.in website. Lucky us, what a helpful tool it is! :-)

Here is the information you wanted in full:

From Sathya Sai Speaks Vol 2, Ch 47 "On To Victory"

"Of course, I never deviate from Truth. Since I recline on Truth, I am called Sathya Sai; Saayi (as in Seshashaayi) means reclining. The name is very appropriate, let me assure you. It is only those who fail to follow my instructions and who deviate from the path I have laid down, that fail to get what I hold out before them. Follow My instructions and become soldiers in My army; I will lead you on to victory. When someone asks you, in great earnestness, where the Lord is to be found, do not try to dodge the question. Give them the answer that rises up to your tongue from your heart. Direct them. He is here in the Prashaanthi Nilayam."

Sai Ram Brothers and Sisters,

Thanks ever so much. It seems that Swami has spoken on this issue more than once. I am so pleased and thankful that Christine and Sundar Siva responded so quickly. Sundar Siva has found the original quote that I read.

Many thanks to both of you. The original quotation is below:

Sai Ram sister April ,

Yes Swami did say and I quote - " When some one asks you in great earnestness where the lord is to be found ,do not dodge ; give them the answer that rises on to your tongue from your heart , direct him to puttaparthi and invite him to share your joy.'"

This quote is from pocket book " Sai Avatar " and it is compiled by C.L. Gandhi from following books :-

1. Sathya SAI SPEAKS - VOLUME 1

2. SATHYA SAI SPEAKS - VOLUME 3.

3. SATHYA SAI SPEAKS- VOLUME 4.

4. SATHYA SAI SPEAKS- VOLUME 5.

5.SATHYA SAI SPEAKS- VOLUME 6.

6. PRASANTHI VAHINI.

7. SUMMER SHOWERS IN BRINDIVAN- 1973.

8.SATHYAM SIVAM SUNDARAM - PART 1.

9. SATHYAM SIVAM SUNDARAM - PART -2

10. SATHYAM SIVAM SUNDARAM- PART 3.

Sister you will find two pocket books and this particular quote is from volume 1 of Sai Avatar.

Now " God lives in India is the famous quote from the Blitz editor from Bombay ( India) he was the first journalist who was granted 2 hrs of Interview from our beloved Swami and then he declared in his news paper in bold letter's that - " God lives in India ".He did publish a book named - "God lives in India "by R. K. Karanjia.

Hope this helps

Best Regards

Sai Ram
