திருச்சிற்றம்பலம்

ஆதிக்கண் நான்முகத்தில் ஒன்று சென்று

அல்லாத சொல்லுரைக்கத் தன்கை வாளால்

சேதித்த திருவடியைச் செல்ல நல்ல

சிவலோக நெறிவகுத்துக் காட்டுவானை

மாதிமைய மாதொரு கூறாயினானை

மாமலர் மேல் அயனோடு மாலும் காணா

நாதியை நம்பியை நள்ளாற்றானை

நானடியேன் நினைக்கப்பெற்று உய்ந்தவாறே.

Meaning:

In the beginning, one from the four heads when said untellable,

the Holy Feet (Lord) that chopped with the sword in hand;

One Who would design and show the meritorious path

to go for the world of shiva;

One Who is partner of the Lady of great honor;

The Refuge that is not seen by the brahma on the flower and viShNu;

The Beloved; The Lord of thirunaLLARu

- thinking Him, I, the slave, got uplifted this way.

Notes:

1. Lord shiva sent bhairava and chopped off

the fifth head of brahma, when he said improper things.

That history is referred here by nAyanar.

2. mAthimai - honor; n^Athi - lord/refuge
