Guest guest
I looked at the Mother Cow website. Frankly after examining it carefully, I think it is somewhat of a scam. In my note on Chakra http://www.chakra.org/living/SimpApr21_04.html I invite readers to analyze the weaknesses of the program as presented on their website. Everyone here is invited to respond and send their analysis into Chakra. Cow protection is a big thing in India, hence their are many groups who are happy to take people's money, while providing only a half-developed program of cow protection. I recommend that you take a closer look. I'm pretty sure you'll see what I mean. But as people who know something about what proper cow protection standards should be, I feel like we have a duty to educate the innocent public on what they should be looking for in a cow protection program. I hope some of you will take the opportunity to respond to my article. ys hkdd Hrimati (dd) ACBSP (Mayapur - IN) wrote: >Hari bol! >Dear Balabhadra Prabhu, >Chack out this new cow web site >http://www.mothercow.org > >Y.s. >Hrimati dasi > >----------------------- >To from this mailing list, send an email to: >Cow-Owner (AT) pamho (DOT) net > >

The thing that makes it more of a scam is that they are actually aware of what is missing from their program. You will note that up at the top of their page are what appear to be "links" saying "ox protection" and "bull protection" -- but they are just dead-ends. They don't go anywhere. And when you add up all their numbers, it's clear that the great majority of their herd is cows. Also, its very unclear where all the calves went -- indicating a lack of lifetime protection. There are several other problems also. ys hkdd > > >In a message dated 4/21/2004 7:12:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time, >Rupanuga.TKG (AT) pamho (DOT) net writes: > > > >>Good skeptical eye, as always, Hare Krishna devi. Guest guest
It's still a scam because they claim they are protecting their cows, but in fact, they are protecting at most 50% of their cows. The bulls -- which are the most challenging part to protect -- they are simply sending off to the Sikh goshalla down the road. Better to donate your money to the Sikhs. They are breeding cows primarily for the purpose of obtaining profits from the milk -- not for the purpose of producing a bull calf. And they are breeding without having clear and concrete plans for what to do with the resulting bull calf for its entire life (10-20 years) -- unless you call palming the bulls off on the Sihk goshalla a plan for life care. I don't call it a plan. Also, they have insufficient acreage for grazing. They want to buy more land -- but it is for the purpose of expanding their milking herd -- not for the purpose of providing adequate grazing for the cows they currently have. Madhava Gosh summed it up well: They are having a massive fund raiser for the purpose of developing a milking herd. Sorry. This is not cow protection. It's a scam. ys hkdd Hrimati (dd) ACBSP (Mayapur - IN) wrote: >Hari bol! >Actually I wrote to them exactly with that question and also about their ox >program. How well individual cows are taken care of is not the whole point. The whole point is: How well are **all** the cows being taken care of. You may see 20-30 great looking cows on a hillside in Vermont -- but the fact is, you are only seeing 20 percent of the herd. All the males and old cows have been sent to slaughter. So having good looking cows is a portion of cow protection. Actually, I remember being a little shocked when I first heard Sri Krsna prabhu give a tour of the barn at Gita-nagari. After showing all the fantastic-looking Brown Swiss cows, he guided visitors to some nicely maintained stalls with some very scrawny looking cows. "You won't see cows like this anywhere else in the US, " he said proudly. Why is is showing those cows? I thought. They look awful! "These are the grandmothers. They're not milking any more, but they are real sweeties. On a regular farm they would be sold to slaughter, but cow protection means that all cows are taken care of nicely as long as they live. In the spring they will be right out there in the pasture with all the other cows -- not headed for a slaughter house." Then I understood. Taking care of all the cows includes some cows that don't look great. And back to our age-old question -- if these people can't train and take care of their bull calves, then why on earth are they breeding cows to produce more? ys hkdd >> However, to send off the "excess" cows and bulls may not be >> such a good idea. >> They have now two bull calves at present, one they will keep as bull >> and >> the other as ox.
