Guest guest
Namaste Everyone, I forgot to mention one very crucial aspect about the impact of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978 (AIRFA). "AIRFA also sent an important message to federal agencies. THEY MUST CONSULT WITH 'PRACTICING' INDIAN RELIGIOUS LEADERS, rather than BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) bureaucrats or anthropologists. Indians welcomed this new law." From TERRA PACIFICA, Pacific NW Indians and the Bill of Rights by John R Wunder University of Nebraska-Lincoln USA. This same approach should be applied to Hindu issues. The opinions of those 'PRACTICING' HINDU RELIGION should supercede the opinions of those who claim to be merely 'Experts' on Indian history, sanskrit etc. Perhaps this approach can help in the California Textbook issue. Also so-called experts on Indian religion and culture must be held up to the same standards that Traditional Vedic scholars have always lived upto. In other words, Witzel's views on Veda etc cannot supercede the views of the accepted traditional experts on the Vedas, like Shankara, Madhva, Rupa, Sanatan, Jiva Goswamis, Aurabindo, Swami Narayana etc. If they are contrary then he should be required to publicly admit that he is not an authentic expert on Hindu culture by the very fact that he does not live or believe in the Hindu lifestyle.
