Guest guest
100th anniversary of Maha Swamigal's accession celebrated Kumbakonam: Thousands of devotees of today participated in the inaugural function organised to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Peetarohanam (accession as the head) of Chandrasekendra Saraswathi, former senior Sankaracharya of Kanchi mutt. The present Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi inagurated the three-day function which began here with a religious procession, homams and a meeting. He also inaugurated a "photo exhibition" on the life of the late seer, known as "maha swamigal". Speaking on the occasion, he said his predecesor and guru lived like "a pure saint and a turavi" (a man who has renounced the world) and showed the people how to lead life. Meanwhile, some vedic pandits talking to PTI criticised the state government for its order allowing anyone to become a priest. The government should only administer the temples and should not interfere in the religious matters and rituals. Those who wanted to become priests in the temples, not governed by any "agama", should learn mantras, mantra prayogas (applied mantras), tantras, way of worship and rituals etc. The accurate recitation of mantra was also important as wrong recital could lead to disastrous consequence. Those temples, consecrated according to agamas, come under agama rules and they could not be governed by other rules.Even the Supreme court had observed this in an order long ago, they said. http://www.newkerala.com/news3.php?action=fullnews&id=1526 Talk is cheap.
