An evening with a spiritual master (public programme)

Q.  From the age of 8 you have been studying at this University.  It

seems your life has had a very clear direction and purpose. Could you

share something about this?

The basis of my life has been God's love.  From a very young age I

embarked on the path to God.  Actually, I didn't know about

spiritually or religion but my mother had a lot of love for these

things and so she felt if at least one of her four daughters went

towards God that would be good.  My father wasn't keen on this idea

but my mother was so enthusiastic that I ended up going in this

direction.  When I first came into this spiritual gathering, I stayed

in a boarding school; there were about 80 of us and most were about

10 or 11 years of age. However the teachers were only about 15 or 16

years old! Mateshwari (Mama) and Brahma Baba were the instruments to

take care of us.  At eight years of age, I didn't have an emerged

interest in spirituality but the experience I had was of the love of

the heart from Brahma Baba and Mama and the quality of feelings

coming from their eyes that made me hand over my life to them.  It

was actually God's love that I experienced through Brahma Baba and

that was the love that pulled mine and others hearts.

Every morning we did physical drill. At that time Mama and Baba came

and took each one of us in their arms and said; good morning. It was

a very deep quality of love that came from their eyes. It was the

feeling of BapDada saying `good morning' to us and then the whole day

would be spent experiencing that love. That experience of love was so

deep and profound that it felt as if it was coming from the One who

had been my father for many, many lives.  Of course we were aware of

the father who had given us birth but this deep, deep love from

BapDada seemed to have all other types of love merged in it.  It was

totally unique.  It was this experience of God's love that encouraged

me to come onto this path.

Q. In such a big group how did each of you keep your individual

personalities?

We were all individuals who came from different places. When Baba

gave us that `vision' of love He would tell us that we were all

different branches of the one tree and that He wanted to make us into

one tree of sandalwood. Whenever Baba spoke something it seemed so

real that we felt that it would happen.

Q. Who has been the greatest inspiration to you in your life?

Of course, the greatest inspiration has been BapDada; the two (Shiv

Baba and Brahma Baba) working together. Baba told me something that

has allowed me to experience rest and comfort all the time; one of

the first questions He asked us was; child, do you know who you are?

What is your name? When he asked his question we all gave our

introductions in a physical sense; my name is … this…  Then Baba

would ask who the one saying `my' was. Baba told us that we were

souls inside the body. This awareness of myself as a soul is very

powerful.  The original state of the soul is love, peace, purity and

happiness and when we learned about this we were able to stay in that

stage all the time. In the awareness of soul consciousness, the soul

can automatically link with God and that gives the soul the

experience of swinging in a swing of happiness.

Q. Students at this University have a very high aim of becoming

completely free of negativity – please tell us more…

Baba told us that when we look at someone to look at them as souls.

When we stay in this awareness of being souls we won't find it

difficult to get on with each other.  We are all different and have

different personality traits but when we stay in the awareness of the

soul we don't have to allow the personality traits to affect us.  We

are able to change that which is negative into something positive.

Mama told us that each one is on this spiritual path and each one

knows that he has to change his negative traits.  She said that we

wouldn't pick up something dirty that someone had dropped and use it

so why do we pick up the negative traits of others.  Of course we

understand what is good and what is bad and we shouldn't allow

ourselves to be affected by the negativity of others.  In fact, we

should have the thought to free them of negativity. When I see others

negativity then I have bad thoughts and feelings and then the

atmosphere also becomes negative and so these things spread in the

atmosphere.

Q. You have spent a lot of time in silence. Please tell us about some

of your discoveries.

We received the understanding that the original state of the soul is

peace and that the Supreme is the Ocean of Peace.  Having learned

about this we started to practice it.  When something was not

pleasant for me I went inside into that stage of silence so that I

wouldn't experience that negativity. If I see someone's mistake and

then become affected then I myself become distressed. In order to be

free of that type of distress we sit in meditation and because of the

power of yoga we don't keep bad feelings inside.  The experience in

meditation is of peace and deep power.

Q. How have you used tolerance in your life?

My nature has always been one of being silent and not being

influenced by things around me.  We have been given homework or we

can say a blessing: Don't give sorrow, don't take sorrow.  Even if

someone gives you sorrow, who is the one who accepts it?  If I take

sorrow then who will be distressed? If I take sorrow then I have bad

feelings inside and that sends me into thinking excessively.  I then

have a lot of very fast waste thoughts.  Thoughts are so fast that we

can reach all types of places with our thoughts. We then waste time

and energy. So we have become aware of this and change `waste' into

`best' and start thinking positive thoughts. We can then finish

negative feelings. We are taught many good thoughts to think here.

If there is darkness in a room you have to switch a switch and turn

on the light.  We have to learn to change the type of thoughts we

think so that we can experience light.

Q. Do you think we need challenges to help us progress spiritually?

Many things do come as papers to make us stronger.  This world is

like an ocean.  Can any ocean be without waves?  There are big waves,

medium waves and small waves.  Some waves come to take things in,

some to throw things out. This world is the same; different

situations come and that is not going to change.

Q. What would be your message to the world at the moment?

In the early morning we need to sit in remembrance of the Supreme and

consider each person as our spiritual brother or sister – each a

child of one Father. When you have this feeling of belonging to

others as a family, you cannot bear to see them suffer.  The whole

world is experiencing sorrow and it is only the rays of light and

might from God which can remove their sorrow. So in the early morning

we spread those rays to remove their sorrow.  As I walk and move

during the day there is the feeling that I want to give God's message

to others to teach them how to remove their sorrow.

Q. How can I discover my speciality and use that?

God is the Almighty Authority and each soul is a child of the

Supreme.  When someone has recognition has the awareness that he is a

child of God then he becomes aware that he has the right to the

property of God – all qualities and powers.  Just a prince has the

awareness of being the child of a king and so has the right to

everything, in the same way we have to accept that, as a child of

God, I have a right to all virtues, qualities and powers hat God

has.

Q.  How can we live in harmony with everyone?

I have to keep in mind all my virtues; these are like a bouquet of

flowers. A bouquet is fragrant and spreads that fragrance.  I have to

spread my virtues around and help others experience their virtues.

This helps to create a harmonious atmosphere. The most important

thing in life is happiness.  If there isn't happiness in life, then

life is tasteless as if there is no essence in life.  How do we lose

our happiness?  Remember a time when you have lost your happiness.

What made you lose it?  When I lose my internal happiness it is

because I have been effected by something outside; either a person or

a situation.  That external thing takes away my internal happiness.

Would you let a robber come to your house and take something?  Would

you let him take even a tiny item?  Then why do you let something or

someone take away your happiness.  A situation will come and it will

definitely go but you start asking why did it come, how, who, what,

where?  All these questions create thoughts that take away my

happiness.  If you allow yourself to be affected then you will have

to work hard to think but you will not get a good result. This

creates an illness of bad feelings inside like a type of flu. When

you are sick you don't want to talk to anyone, you don't feel good

inside. It is the same if you hold bad thoughts inside.  Then each

time you remember the situation it brings bad feelings even if the

situation has finished.  We have to move on... leave it!  I have to

learn how to always remain always happy and give happiness.

Q. How can I make God my friend?

We accept that God is our Father but we have to learn to take the

pleasure of that relationship.  God is known as the Ocean of

Happiness, Love, Peace and Bliss.  It is by forging a relationship

with Him that we can experience those qualities.  The sun is shining,

the light is coming, but if you close your doors and windows then how

can you experience that light? We have to learn to maintain a

relationship with God.

Q. Please share with us one very deep spiritual secret to help us

progress.

The deepest secret of all is that I have to learn to make God my

companion and enjoy His company.  Then, whenever any problem comes, I

will be able to deal with it. Always consider yourself to be combined

with God – in His company.  You will then always be able to find

solutions.  Never allow yourself to be alone and become lonely.  God

is my Mother, Father, Teacher, Companion and Friend.  One who

practices this awareness and these relationships can stay in the

world but remain like a lotus – totally beautiful whilst being in

the mud. God is making us this offer.  Accept His offer and stay in

His company and His wisdom and then you will then be able to

experience supersensous joy. It is a subtle thing to recognize the

self as a soul and recognize God and to forge that relationship.
