I wonder if you'd have said that to Prahlada Maharaja? What reasons do you give for his suffering, which was infinitely more horrifying than the atrocities that Indulekha mataji suffered? Is his suffering just some "story" that is meant to "inspire" us? Is his being placed in a vats of oil just "myth"? Is his being pushed off a cliff an "analogy"? Do you accuse Krishna of "stooping so low" as to inflict torture on Sri Prahlada Himself? This is a very strange argument to present in such a situation. "Even perfect saints like Prahläda, Dhruva and YYudhisthira were subjected to great tribulations, all for their glorification." SB 10.88.8 By no means am I dismissing Indulekha mataji's suffering. Only my husband was in the room with me when I read of her ordeal initially, and only he can tell you my reaction was extreme distress to read that a devotee-- particularly a defenseless woman-- had experienced such a horrible fate. But sentimentality, and calling Krishna's involvement "offensive" is not an answer. As for "dragging" Krishna into it: I'm sure Indulekha mataji was praying constantly in jail, in Mathura, and "dragging" Krishna into it herself. In fact, how can you "accuse" someone of "dragging Krishna into it", when Mathura and Vrindavan are the holy dhamas? They do not exist separately from Krishna, so He is hardly required to be "dragged" there. Perhaps if you still consider my words "offensive" you will accept the authority of the Srimad Bhagavatam? Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur says (and it's rather fitting in regard to what you've written above): ""Yes, my dear brother, this makes good sense, but you are not expert in understanding spiritual moods. Please listen: It is at night that the sunrise becomes attractive, during the hot summer that cold water gives comfort, and during the cold winter months that warm water is pleasing. Lamplight appears attractive in darkness, not in the glaring light of day, and when one is distressed by hunger, food tastes especially good." In other words, to strengthen his devotees' mood of dependence on Him and longing for Him, the Lord arranges for His devotees to go through some suffering, and when He appears in order to deliver them, their gratitude and transcendental pleasure are boundless." Guest guest
Thank you,Prabhu for your intelligent and just analysis. > <"I request those devotees who have seen this message and are > concerned > about> what really happened in this situation please write to > Devakinandan > > the> temple president of Vrindavan."> This above letter is certainly high-handed.It suggests an attempt to curtail discussion on the subject. As I was, to a large extent instrumental in getting her released from jail, I am quite aquainted with the situation. There were lapses/high-handedness from both Indulekha and the management. Unfortunately, the matter has been diverted to other (important, but not related) matters. Seeing your (isckcon's) bold letter,I had to speak from my conscience, which hitherto I was withholding. Brajsevaki mataji writes: <Consider that it might be Krishna using this Indulekha devi's situation as a catalyst to expose the cancerous politics of ISKCON Delhi/Vrindavan, and remove the elements that are holding back this preaching mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu> It is offensive to speculate that Krishna would stoop so low to use this situation in which His devotee was tortured so as to correct a managerial/preaching situation. Please do not callously and irresponsibly drag Him into this. This incident was very ugly publicity for Iskcon in Mathura/Vrindavan.This is my humble opinion......But, then I am not Krishna.....But this much I say with conviction, that He certainly arranged her release, given the almost impossible Indian legal system. This letter should not be judged to be a support or otherwise for Subodh and others Thanking you, Mahaman Das ______________ > Get your nameas your email address. > Includes spam protection, 1GB storage, no ads and more > Only $1.99/ month - visit http://www.mysite.com/name today!
