Guest guest
Dear Trivikrama Swami, Please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. It sounds like you would really like to see the service of our leaders appreciated and respected, especially those who have worked hard to establish and maintain the preaching out of the hard earned yields of their own labours. Do you think we should make special considerations for these persons? Or are they also custodians of Prabhupada's mission and in keeping with his mood should follow his example of accountability? How about we give consideration for those who don't earn so much? For those of us who are overseeing million dollar turnovers I think it fair and reasonable to declare one's finances. Mind you personal accounts and proceeds from inheritances should be given some consideration. Not everyone is a pauper in our society. We need to maintain a balance between integrity and privacy. I feel there is a path through this which will satisfy the need for accountability and integrity within Prabhupada's movement and the need to protect an individual's personal privacy. As for enforcement, there must be ways we can do this so as to make it compulsory. The removal of rights and privileges when targeted properly and administered fairly is appropriate. The issue Jayadvaita Swami is raising here is leadership. We have to set the standard by showing the example. We must do this in order to be a really successful community. Once we learn this art then I suspect you won't have to visit the flea market very often other than to maybe pick up a cheap bargain. First of all I thought Iskcon was supposed to be based on "Love and trust". If after 30-35 years of unsalaried service to the society why can't we trust our leaders? Secondly everyone can understand that the GBC can't enforce this "law". Another example of the GBC passing laws that they can't enforce. How are they going to go and look in everyone's pocket? If the institution was giving me money to us to do it's work then I could understand why I would have to report to them on how I spent it. I was recently in a interfaith meeting where all the members were recieving good salaries and there I was, older then most of them and with more years serving my church, but I had to go personally to the flea market on some days to come up with the money to pay the rent. This is especially true for those of us who go to new places to start a center. Sorry but I am not inclined to have to take the time to give this kind of report...If you don't like it then fire me!
