Guest guest
Another autobiographical intermission, forum bandhugan! After intensively wrestling with jyotish and managing to learn just enough to see some light in the distance (a la Lorena McKenitt!) I had the fortune of meeting several jyotishis in my hometown, some were medical representatives in their under the sun lives, others were teachers in various subject areas, many more were "magicians" (I will just leave it at that!) and one of them was a vocational misfit who turned into a labour union leader and really wanted to take me under his wings but his inability to calculate a chart even by the approximation method several jyotishis employed, really cheesed me off, quite frankly. The grandfather (a retired judge) of one of my classfellows was an interesting experience because he let me have a glimpse at his collection of charts, painstakingly collected and catalogued (back in late 60s early 70's in India this was only through fountain pen and elbow grease!). I must have put the fear of God into the grandfatherly gentleman when I innocently and caringly expressed my concerns to him for not having backups just in case there is a heavy rain or fire. Big faux pas! Never do that, KIDS! It is a miracle that I did not stop associating with astrology, but I had always been quite level headed about it and learned early (Thanks God!) that many (humans) have tried to eat this Elephant (jyotish) but did not have the wherewithal to go beyond the tough hide that an elephant boasts of or is blessed with (the reason why I have no concerns about anyone learning astrology! It has built-in protection to not go to the undeserved). A classfellow and someone who had been a friend of mine since high school told me when I was in university that his grandfather was an astrology buff. I was a bit less than excited (read last couple paragraphs in case you glossed over those ;-)) but then relented. Shyam had been a good friend and his elder sister who was quite a bully was my teacher and had the power of death over my grades! That evening still rings true in my memory, blazing vividly in its simple splendour! The mild-mannered, soft-spoken maharashtrian gentleman, barely 5'5" (I always associated army men as being tall and muscular and loud! Myth broken!!) who shuffled into the room where we were waiting and what struck me at first was that he was there but not just there! It is eerie and no other way to explain. I have had this feeling with others too later, but they tended to be psychics and not astrologers (not the logical ones, anyway. Well this one was, believe me!!). So another rude awakening was when this individual started talking about reproduction studies and malthusian theories and giving scientific references about his prime area of research in population control (India had a big problem with that area!) and how astrology can help it. To my chagrin, I must admit, that I was not really interested in such sociological issues of import at that time, but what impressed me most was the extremely organized and detailed notes this man kept when he started showing me his life's work in medical astrology and register after register lay in front of my ever enlarging eyes! And this (he must be 60+ then) gentleman went through those, jumping from chart to another, several pages further down or sometimes even in another register -- illustrating the combinations. He became so animated and dynamic that I barely could keep pace with him and though I may not have learned a lot of astrological combinations in those few meetings, I caught his love and infectious passion for astrology. Here I was finally meeting a true researcher: A PERPETUAL STUDENT!! Gotten a lot wiser by then, I kept my mouth clenched shut and did not voice my even greater concerns about any impending floods, leaky roofs or fires! Neither of these data pack-rats were my astrology teachers in a true sense of the term but they impressed very strongly on me how practical astrology must be done and how important (and easy) it is to move away from the comfort zone of mindlessly parroting classics and moving into the warzone of real charts and then keeping a track of those. One was a judge, another was an army official, both retired and free to devote their full attention to the love of their life - Jyotish! I wish everyone be so fortunate. To complete a fruitful career one can be proud of, and then be granted time and health to devote one-mindedly to the passion of their soul and to be able to influence even a few who would try to carry out and transmit their passion if not their knowledge, in a minor way at least. Thanks for your gift of listening! RR SURRENDER JOYFULLY TO THE WILL OF THE ULTIMATE DIVINITY AND RELISH THE TASTE OF ABSOLUTE BLISS. Guest guest
Haizen it is good u on what u said on the biographical stuff sent by readers isnt it becomming non astrological and personal? I remember 2 months ago on 2 diff occasions the writer u said applauded take a swipe 1. was about my typing errors- which I apologised more in haste as I had just entered the group and answering as many as possible and chatig with as many I could made mistakes and my limited sight was a reason just 10-12% of normal vision but said still take care- I GOT A REPLY I DON'T CARE ABOUT IT 2. NEXT TIME WAS ABOUT A REPLY on a thread that Guru was a malefic in loaction, aspect etc. even quoting different Yugas. Here I said it is not right and it has to be seen in context as each Yuga has dif values and Guru must be seen in that context not today's values. and Guru now is not a result giver like Sukra, Rahu, sani now as we need instant gratification, results and by any means, gave examples too. But guru give gains only through hard, honest, gains of wealth, status, fame by intigrated persons like Manmohan singh, Rajendra Prasad, Lalbahud shastry etc. and Laloo or Mayavati or Telgi or politicians goonds, dons Guru is a malefic where no values, morals r there here he also said that he in not interested in my background.and drew many swipes examples were for showing it is to be seen in context but no, only what he said is right not others THIS ALSO THIS LEARNED ALL TIME AUTHORITY RIDICULED HE ALSO RIDICULED posts very some seniors and new comers Sreenadh had done some good research on new paths, yet was ridiculed why can't anyone be gvien same scale? the basis of our existance in astrology is the classical works no doubt how we adapt it and not limited by it but expanding it and modifiying it to times we live in, makes us and the subject strong. and we need to learn, relearn all the time manythings, life is our best classic to teach us. other books help us and surely without divine grace in timely intutuon all our rules we master won't work. haizen <haizen (AT) haizen (DOT) com> wrote: Hello RR, Your post is an absolute treasure...and so true.
