Guest guest
Dear Members, Durga Saptashati and Devi Mahatmayam Though these two names are used interchangeably there seems to be some difference between these two books ... maybe in the way the prayers are arranged. Can some learned member tell me if these two books are really the same or do they just deal with the same subject matter ... in 700 verses ..... all these verses being different except for some overlapping. Guest guest
Dear Shri. Jitendra: Yes....wrong pronuniciation can lead to disastrous results and it is better to get the initiation done properly to avoid untoward results. I will cite one example from the real life of a devotee: There was a learned vedic brahmin who was often losing his wives (whomever he married died within one year of the marriage)....In his anguish, he represented his case to the then Sringeri Aacharya who was a great yogi and Shri Vidhya UPaasakaa....The Swaamiji with his yogic vision could find out that the Brahmin- learned though he was - had been chanting one verse of the Sapta sati wrongly which had led to the disastrous results! In DEvi Kavacham, a verse will come "Bhaaryaam rakshatu Bhairavi..." which means "Let Goddess Bhairavi protect my wife". Instead, the Brahmin had memorized it as "Bhaaryaam bhakshatu Bhairavi" and had been reciting it in this form. This means "Let Goddess Bhairavi Eat my wife".......The chanting of a true brahmin can never go in vain, and consequently all his wives were being taken away by hosts of Devi Ganaas to their abode as per his "prayers"! The swaamiijii corrected this, and thereafter the vedic brahmin lived happily with a new wife and also begot wonderful children through her. I think this episode will be enough to explain the importance of having our verses checked by competent upaasakaas before chanting them. Mantra shaastra is like that ! It is like a computer program, and once the syllables are voiced, they "have to " give the results asked for from them if the chanting is done properly. In any case, it is always to end the prayer session with a prayer of forgiveness for any unintentional mistakes in the intonation or incantation of mantraas. "Oh Mother! Thou art Merciful! You know exactly how these verses should be, and what results are actually wished for! KIndly correct my erraneous chants to the right form and give me only the Good Results. I sincerely apologize for the unintentional mistakes that might have crept into my chanting either due to my ignorance, or due to my lack of concentration, or simply due to unconscious slip of the tongue. May Vaak Devi - the Goddess of Speech render my chants perfect. Om Shaanti shaanti shaanti" Blessed be. Pandit. Guest guest
dear dakshinamoorthi ji what a great example to highlight the power of these mantras. in my own experience, i found a devotee who read the powerful kunjika stotram in the internet in some tantra groups and has started reciting daily 108 times with wrong pronounciation of "AIM" as it is pronounced in the words "aim" or in the word "em" and was not getting any favourable results. also for this most powerful mantra to attain perfect siddhi, it needs recital of four lakh times followed by homam with payasannam for forty thousand times, tarpanam for four thousand times, marjanam for four hundred times and bhojanam to forty brahmins. this elaborate procedure is not practically feasible for most persons these days. even after siddhi, very few mantra experts are aware of as to how to use the mantra for shat prayogam viz. vashikarana, mohana, akarshana, uchhatana, marana and sthambhana. for each prayogam, a separate mantra has to be recited which is not shared by mantra experts. with so many strict procedures on these siddha mantras, i have been suggesting the devotees to follow simple saatvik mantras like the following which have no negative side affects at all and are easy to pronounce even without a guru diksha: 1. OM NAMAH SHIVAYA 2. OM SHREE RAM JAI RAM JAI JAI RAM 3. OM NAMO NARAYANAYA 4. OM NAMO BHAGAWATE VASUDEYAYA 5. OM SAAM SARAVANA BHAVA it is always prudent for any willing sadhaka or upasaka to approach a learnt guru like dakshinamoorthi ji and take guidance as to what mantra suits his requirement and also the number and procedure of recital besides receiving the mantra in person. with best wishes and regards pandit arjun vedic astrology, "dakshinastrologer" <dakshinastrologer wrote: > > Dear Shri. Guest guest
||Jai Ramakrishna|| Dear members, I agree with what Shree Dakshinamoorthiji said..i will add that each & every mantra...be it Gita, Upanishad, Vedas, puranams or Chandi...or even any holy mantra should be properly & correctly pronounced....It has been seen that proper pronunciation of mantras has got a harmonizing effect on human lives...mantras if recited in the early morning has some good effects.... I remember my guruji when HE told me to pronounce my diksha mantra correctly after he initiated me with the Mantra of Shree Shree Ramakrishna Paramahamsadeva...If you dont the proper pronunciation, then go to any learned person who knows correct pronunciation for incorrect pronunciation not only changes the meaning of the mantra, but reciting the same mantra has no effect...
