Guest guest
i was just pondering over the statement that swami has many a times said... DO NOT WASTE FOOD, ENERGY, TIME AND MONEY. i just thought if we can take each of these and discuss and each of us can pool in our understanding of the quotation, to get an in depth understanding of the concept. firstly, when swami says..do not waste food..what does it mean..i was thinking about it for quite some time and these were the questions that i got - 1. if we take food in our plate and cannot eat the whole and throw away some...is it wasting food? 2. if we take in our plate only how much we need, but in the end there is a lot of food in the container in which it was made and we throw that out...is it wasting food. 3. just to avoid wasting food, can we eat a lot, so that food doesn;t go waste, but we spoil our health in the process..is this right? when i was thinking thus, i thought that food is biodegradable, and it can never go waste as nature always recycles it. what we throw as cooked food is broken down into its elements and recycled. then what does swami mean by not wasting food.... may be it means that we should convert the food that we eat into useful energy that takes us in our spiritual journey towards GOD and in the service of food. may be it means calorie balance...do as much work as you eat. etc..etc.. may i now elicit some responses from all after thinking within themselves what the statement means. ask for an explanation within and please post what you felt from within what this means. sairam. Guest guest
food may not necessarily mean the food that we take in through our mouth. food is different for each of our senses. what we listen is food for our ears. what we smell is food for our nose..what we see is food for our eyes..etc..etc. can we look at the same saying of swami in terns of these things..then what perspective do we get? lakshmi devraj <lakshmidevraj > wrote: Dear Maam, Good - day, about what is DO NOT WASTE FOOD. Guest guest
Sai Ram, Swamy has stated that the term food denotes not only what we consume through the mouth but also what we see, what we hear and what actions are done. When we say food should not be wasted it follows from this that what ever we see good things with our eyes should not be allowed to be wasted. In other words we can be said to have used our eyes if we can imbibe good things seen by the eyes for improving the qualty of our life. As a corollary to this we will be considered to have wasted our eyes if we retain in mind bad things seen by the eyes and act on those lines. So also wastage of the ear and organs in case of good and bad things/actions heard or done. "Bhadram Karnebhihi srunuyama devaah, bhadram Pasyaama yajatraaha..........." is the Vedic prayer signifying that we should see and hear good things only in life, failing which we are not putting our sense organs to right use. May Swamy be kind enough to grant sadbuddhi to all group memberswhereby we do not waste all the things associated with food! Sai Ram Messenger with Voice.
