COM knows the new command "Echo On/Off" which switches on/off the echoing of

COM. I programmed it only to find out if COM can switch off the local echo

of the shell account.

If you are connecting COM through a shell account the please make the

following test:

- Go on-line and at the "Get Daytime" prompt enter the command "Echo On".

(COM will then switch on its echoing, say "Echo is now On" and send a

command to the VSNL Telnet program that it should kindly switch off the

local echo.)

- Wait a little (10 seconds or so), then enter the command "Echo" (without

the "On") and look what COM says.

One of following three possibilities may happen:

1. The VSNL Telnet program ignores the command and continues to echo, and

each character that you type will be doubled.

2. It refuses the command and tells COM to switch off again the echoing. You

will not see the characters doubled, but the second time COM says "Echo is

Off".

3. It accepts the command and switches of the local echo. You will not see

the characters doubled, and the second time COM says "Echo is On".

Most probably (1) will happen. (2) is very unlikely.

Please tell me the results of your test in a private letter (answer).
