Guest guest
This modern chemical soup we float in, totally disturbs the intercellular communication of our bodies. Cells communicate just as we communicate with each other and just as we use different languages so each different type of cell has a different language. "I've had diabetes for the last ten years and you are asking me to take dates and honey? I really wonder if you are the right ayurvedist for me!" this remark from several patients triggered this topic in this series. Our greatest problem is that when the DNA antenna and transmitter cannot receive pulse waves, whether they are electromagnetic, hormonal, electrochemical, or neurotransmitters, cellular communication is not triggered to either neighboring or to distant cells. Transmission and reception are equally affected. When cells become contaminated and suffocated by the sludge of cellular toxemia, the cell membrane becomes blocked and is then resistive to electromagnetic, neurotransmitter, and hormonal pulse waves which are unable get through and hit the DNA coil in order to transmit and receive cellular messages. This is how cellular communication shuts down, making us tired and docile. These few paragraphs from a very old book from the attic, despite a few beginning and end pages eaten by mice over the years, may be both interesting and throw further light on this mystery: Mathematics, material science, is indispensable to the intelligent discussion of the material aspects of the universe, but such knowledge is not necessarily a part of the higher realization of truth or of the personal appreciation of spiritual realities. Not only in the realms of life but even in the world of physical energy, the sum of two or more things is very often something more than, or something different from, the predictable additive consequences of such unions. The entire science of mathematics, the whole domain of philosophy, the highest physics or chemistry, could not predict or know that the union of two gaseous hydrogen atoms with one gaseous oxygen atom would result in a new and qualitatively superadditive substance - liquid water. The understanding knowledge of this one physiochemical phenomenon should have prevented the development of materialistic philosophy and mechanistic cosmology. Technical analysis does not reveal what a person or a thing can do. For example: Water is used effectively to extinguish fire. That water will put out fire is a fact of everyday experience, but no analysis of water could ever be made to disclose such a property. Analysis determines that water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen; a further study of these elements discloses that oxygen is the real supporter of combustion and that hydrogen will itself freely burn. Such is the nature of chemicals, but the other problem is actually seeing the problem for what it is. Many people live through one diagnosis to the next - never getting any better because there is little understanding of the significance of diagnosis. How do we get the right diagnosis in the first place? We have to realise that diagnosis is only a classification that hides or disguises symptoms and their significance to the being as a whole. Many health problems, including peripheral neuropathy, autism, precocious puberty, premature ovarian failure/menopause, depression, obesity due to binge eating, diabetic/cardiac disease in children, childhood asthma etc., can be defined as being caused by disturbed cellular communication. Corresponding dosha as defined by Ayurveda is Vata and its origins can all be traced back to nutritional deficiencies. The time has come to take another deeper look at the philosophy presented by ancient Acharyas by using modern science. Refined sugar is not utilized very effectively by our cells and sits outside the cells trying to get in. Glycosugars are readily taken up by our cells and are necessary for cell-to-cell communication and essential functioning. A lack of glycosugars on the cells' receptors also plays a factor in cellular communication breakdown. If glycosugars are not there, lining the cell membrane and causing a Braille-type notching, the cells cannot fire the messages. When cell membranes are coated with toxins and deficient in glycosugars, they can't talk or communicate with each other properly either. Glycoproteins are proteins bound with sugar specifically used for building enzymes, hormones, immunoglobulins and antibodies and are found in each cell of our bodies - whether these are human, animal or plant cells. These recent discoveries established the fact that all mammals must synthesize glyconutrients as a normal function of life. The glyconutrients then attach to the protein surface of the cell to form glycoproteins. Those who don't produce all of the eight essential glyconutrients correctly will develop a disease condition. Apparently this is now a medically established fact. The 1999 Nobel prize in Medicine was awarded for this discovery. MIT's February 2003 issue of Technology Review says that "Glycomics, the study and application of these vital sugars, is to be one of the Ten Emerging Technologies that will save the world". Research suggests that certain sugars are "biologically active" and do not convert to glucose when consumed. Instead they go directly to the protein surface of each and every cell in our bodies to form a complex system of cellular communication, this is the "operating system" of the body. As our cells touch each other, they communicate through this "sugar code" everything a cell might need, whether it be nutrition, repair, or hormones, etc. Proteins in milk, along with sugar, can build serotonin in the body to give good sleep when taken at bedtime. Similarly, a very popular sweet in Maharashtra is Puran-poli, which contains horse gram and jaggery, a mixture that induces sleep if consumed in excess, in fact most sugars can cause drowsiness if taken in excess. The importance of sugars in communication can be illustrated by this example. It is well known that our day goes well if the bowels are evacuated first thing in the morning. The first sign of Vata dosha is constipation. A young patient of this author found it strange that he needed to visit toilet for the second time after a cup of tea, even after feeling that the bowels were empty. Was it the sugar in the tea or the caffeine that caused his nervous system to act in this way? He was then asked to take some warm water in which jaggery was dissolved. The warm water had better penetrating power to the cells and the jaggery provided some sugar. This experience established that caffeine was not needed for starting a happy day! It was the glucose in the jaggery that was acting here. When a hundred trillion cells are being shut down from effective communication, it affects our moods and feelings. Just try the experience of a glass of warm milk with a little sugar taken at bedtime. You will find that It also affects the energy and thought processes. In all discussion on cellular nutrition mentioned previously in this series, electromagnetics and photons are involved. Every nutrient in living form is conductive, whether it be oxygen, minerals, essential fatty acids, or water, and all of these carry a current, just as if we were in a bathtub with a live radio thrown into it. Water is a carrier of electrical current as long as we have the right type of water in the body. So every nutrient contributes to the overall cellular electricity. Cellular communication requires electrical conductivity in the cells. The moment conductivity is reduced we have depression, the body becomes unable to listen to signals, or we have the signals not getting generated in the first place. It may be recalled that the home remedy for depression uses jaggery in addition to tulsi and ginger. Most sugars are satvic in nature and if we study Ayurvedic remedies to boost fertility, satvic foods such as milk, dates, jaggery, honey, and wheat, are used in abundance in these remedies. In the world of birds, animals and humans...fertility and procreation is not possible without cellular communication and the complex interplay of hormones which causes sexual feelings, blood flow to organs and release of fluids. Unless a male entertains/placates the female of the species into submission with love (not rape), she will not release eggs, and the male will not be ready for sex...all this cosmic drama for creation is impossible without glycoproteins showing once more that the absence of glycoproteins in the body throws the symphony of hormones out of tune and infertility is the result. This discussion will be continued on Monday to maintain continuity. The editing help received from Jane MacRoss is gratefully acknowledged.
