Its very strange being in the position as the enforcer of the rules, because you bump up against the distrust of authority. And then there is the risk of turning into a guru nazi, which really sets people off, on both sides of that equation. Most people were somewhat patient and want to acknowledge the new rules, while others completely ignore us and slip through confrontationally. We decided to just let people's own conscience rule in those situations, because physically enforcing would become violent and inappropriate around Amma. The seva of waking people up in the hall who are sleeping during DB is equally unpleasant. If I woke you up, Im sorry man. Those sleepers sure looked happy. But the difference in the energy in the hall when we removed the sleepers was palpable Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! Terms of Service.
Guest guest
I am surprised that what you are stating was enough for Bhavani. I would imagine she didn't know that this was how you were handling it. I agree it is VERY uncomfortable, but if this is what Amma is asking us to do and we volunteer for the Seva, then we should do it as She directs us, whether that is directly or through Her Hall General, Bhavani. No one wants to keep people out and away from Amma. I don't know the circumstance in the hall you are speaking about, but I don't see why you would interpret the job as violent. I guess you shouldn't go to India and be on crowd control there. I agree with your take on the change in the energy of the hall when the sleeping is removed. Jai Maa! Surya this is exactly the problem. Its very strange being in the position as the enforcer of the rules, because you bump up against the distrust of authority. Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya: I have been locked out on two occasions. Both times my vasanas came out in force. The immature mind set I displayed was like a basketball player committing an obvious foul and then arguing that I should not be penalized. With Mothers grace I have not been late in the Hall since '04. Amma is not an anarchist. There are rules in a spiritual order. However they are FOR OUR GOOD (not Hers) because Amma does not need any power (SHE IS PURNA) leave alone a power trip. So Chris-ji, by following your Guru's Seva instructions and enforcing the "no crashing during DB" rule and the "lockout rule" in actuality you are doing the malingerers (like me) a service. They are being blessed in disguise. What possibly happens is that security helps prevent me from incurring negative karma. People who give dirty looks and act semi-violently perhaps are ignorant of the sanctity of being in the presence of a Saint. Even in the worldly sense could someone sleep (on the floor)in front of an event honoring ie the Canadian Prime Minister? BTW Keval it may be acceptible to snooze on a chair semi-prone. Are participants allowed to crash on the floor at a court proceeding? People who cannot stay up all night should possibly pass on Devi Bhava after 4:00 am. This is not just some blessing ritual oh how nice flowers thrown at me and I promenade past with groovy music. The need for decorum is useful in worldly events of consequence ie no crashing on the floor at a funeral. Why can we not feel at least equally in need of decorum in the presence of a Mahatma/Saint (some say Incarnation of God)? Guest guest
greetings beloved family and darling children of AMMA.after r making it the stage and almost being right next to AMMAs physical body, this child was ask was he a part of the marriage ceremony.this child had know idea that a marriage was even going on.ALL he saw was his MOTHER blessing HER children...when temba got right next to AMMA, he was told to leave the stage by a devotee doing that seva.ofcourse this created uncomfortabilty for temba, however, what popped into his heart was"insult ands compliment is the same to a spiritual aspirant" AMMAs sun left the stage with no ill feelings.as he walked out of the hall, a liittle girl who was no more then three of four and out there all by herself, walks up to temba ,grabs his hand and tells him to come with him....AMMAs sun new that was AMMA ...the little girl ran with temba all around the land and eventually brought temba back into the hall and released him.... later on while staying in the ashram, the same devotee who asked this child to leave the stage asked temba where he had gone.he said AMMA sent for them to find this child.ofcourse that gave temba a warm feeling inside, but at that point, he was so greatful for not getting HER physical hug ,that it didnt matter.. SHE hugged him through that little girl and SHE also allowed this child to see how he was expanding....AMMAs sun has learned that NO to one thing is , YES TO another if your heart remains open.. this child prays that this experience may bring light, life and love into someones life... >"Mahamuni Das" <mahamuni (AT) cox (DOT) net> >Ammachi ><Ammachi> >Re: Re: no sleep during Devi Bhava..guru nazis and hippy >kid sleepers >Fri, 19 May 2006 10:03:55 -0700 > >Your words are beautiful brotherji! Guest guest
Surya, This reminds me of my seva at LA last year. I was assigned to do several shifts of Line Entry seva. I thought it would be joyful to greet people and collect their tokens and make sure the line went smoothly. Much to my surprise, many people were rude, wanting to go before their number or not even having a token. Many were sneaking in from the sides of the hall instead of entering the line from the back. Then there were "experienced" sevites who were managing the front of the line who yelled at me and blamed me if anyone managed to sneak through. It was quite challenging. Then another devotee asked me to "spell her" in the security detail. I was shocked to see people trying to steal jewelry and aroma therapy bottles. I had to watch like a hawk! My favorite seva was helping to set up the coffee/chai room. It was physical labor which I enjoy. I could say my mantra... and of course people who are drinking and eating and socializing are usually in a good mood. I think that all seva is a gift and a challenge. Guest guest
Yeah, thanks for the feedback, because this is coming up again. In Boston, the scene got so violent, people were outraged that the doors were closing..some had legitimate reasons, babies in needed changing in the room etc.. Apparently many didn't hear the announcement about closing the hall. I have never seen the like around Amma in the US. In India..crowd control has to be strong, but remember the US is very different..this is the land of lawyers and pushing someone is technically assault. this does not fly in the US. In Detroit, people were just coming and going quite a bit, and many had been sleeping. They would respond in a truly bullying way when confronted at times..after Boston's all out scene we were trying the kind and gentle approach, which seemed to work, somewhat. I am sure that many people who slept still got in. This year the protocol will be well known and we may have to get tougher! its still somewhat unresolved, maybe the swamis and staff have some new ideas? what happens on the west coast? Guest guest
this may help someone who is participating in the the tense sevas.AMMAs sun prays with all of his heart that it does..when this child was incarsarated ,there use to be prison raids regularly.they would come with dogs most of the time and turn over our beds as well as totally ramsack our lockers. this child had to watch his picture of AMMA get snatched off of his locker(alter) and sometimes thrown on the floor.this was the most tense time for all the brothers... at first this child was so effected by this ,however, at the same time, AMMA had him reading a section in one of AMMAs AWAKEN CHILDREN books on WITNESSING . AMMAs sun began to practice this spiritual excercise during the prison raids. this child went from being so effected by the raids to actually smiling once they were over.the other brothers use to wonder why AMMAs sun was so happy..it was because of AMMA teaching him how to WITNESS..there was a time when AMMA brought HER sun into the witness state while they were raiding and the officers ran right passed this child ,as if he wasnt there.the officers pushed everyone else around and even hit others with clubs, however, through HER GRACE of witnessing, this child was untouched.this AMMA says can happen if you read HER WORDS IN VOLUME SEVEN..AMMAs sun has experienced this as divine truth.. practicing the witness state may be something that soemone invloved in the tense sevas might consider.please refer to AWAKEN CHILDREN volume 7.it is the book with the purple triming and AMMAs hand is on HER HEART.. if you read this section and practice it,you will remain uneffected and thus serve more effectively... AMMAs sun prays with all of his heart that one of HER darling children may benefit from this experience and that our AMMA is pleased... "so the witnessing happens only when you become totally detached from the mind and the thought process.you then become fully concious of everything, even your own thought process.for "THE SPIRITUAL ASPIRANT"(HER children)on the spiritiual path ,this can be PRACTICED as an attitude towards everything... >"ckeniley2003" <ckeniley2003 > >Ammachi >Ammachi > Re: no sleep during Devi Bhava..guru nazis and hippy kid >sleepers >Fri, 19 May 2006 21:54:11 -0000 > >Yeah, thanks for the feedback, because this is coming up again. > >In Boston, the scene got so violent, people were outraged that the >doors were closing..some had legitimate reasons, babies in needed >changing in the room etc.. Guest guest
this may help someone who is participating in the the tense sevas.AMMAs sun prays with all of his heart that it does..when this child was incarsarated ,there use to be prison raids regularly.they would come with dogs most of the time and turn over our beds as well as totally ramsack our lockers. this child had to watch his picture of AMMA get snatched off of his locker(alter) and sometimes thrown on the floor.this was the most tense time for all the brothers... at first this child was so effected by this ,however, at the same time, AMMA had him reading a section in one of AMMAs AWAKEN CHILDREN books on WITNESSING . "so the witnessing happens only when you become totally detached from the mind and the thought process.you then become fully concious of everything, even your own thought process.for "THE SPIRITUAL ASPIRANT"(HER children)on the spiritiual path ,this can be PRACTICED as an attitude towards everything...AMMA >"ckeniley2003" <ckeniley2003 > >Ammachi >Ammachi > Re: no sleep during Devi Bhava..guru nazis and hippy kid >sleepers >Fri, 19 May 2006 21:54:11 -0000 > >Yeah, thanks for the feedback, because this is coming up again. > >In Boston, the scene got so violent, people were outraged that the >doors were closing..some had legitimate reasons, babies in needed >changing in the room etc.. Guest guest
*laughing* okay, thanks Pahari Maa. That's a new one on me!
