YHS Kavi Karnapura das I feel it depends on the level of advancement of his diksha-guru. According to the Krishna-Bhajanamrita, there are different ways of dealings with gurus of different potency. If his diksha-guru is on the kanishtha-level (that is he sometimes may not know what is right or wrong), he can respectfully request permission from his guru that he can't follow his instruction. If the diksha-guru is on the madhyama-platform, the disciple has to accept his instruction much more seriously and respectfully ask furthur clarification from the shastra from his guru about why this instruction is being given. After being satisfied with the answer, the disciple should execute his instruction. If the diksha-guru is an uttama-adhikari pure maha-bhagavata then his instruction should be immediately executed without any hesitation or delay because his words are actually as good as the shastra.
