Namaskarams!! just because i do not use the Raman Ayanamsha does not necessarily mean that my Jyotish program is off. i use the Lahiri ayanamsha, which has worked perfectly well for me. i find that the south indian astrologers occasionally do have somewhat different results at times, usually the timing for ingress of planets into new signs...and i suspect that it has to do with them using a different ayanamsha...but i have not noticed that this affects the phases of the Moon. whatever works for them is fine for them, and whatever works for me is fine for me. incidentally, this Jyotish program comes with the Lahiri Ayanamsha as the Default ayanamsha. if you wish to change you have to go to the preferences...i have experimented with both Raman and Lahiri ayanamsha, and i definitely prefer the Lahiri one...it is much more accurate for my purposes. the Astrologers that i have learned the most from, and whose advice i trust have unanimously endorsed the use of Lahiri Ayanamsha...including KN Rao, who in my books is a master astrologer as well as many of his students. the Jyotish program Sri Jagannatha Hora is written by an Indian scientist/engineer living in the US, PVR Narasimha Rao SJVC (Sri Jagannath Vedic Center). He is a Jyotish Guru with the Sri Jagannath Centre....under another Jyotish Guru, Sanjay Rath. Now i do not follow everything that they teach, as they promote the idea of Eight Jaimini Karakas, including the use of Rahu/Ketu, whereas my mentor, KN Rao, strongly and firmly supported the use of only Seven Jaimini Karakas, without Rahu/Ketu, which to me also makes more sense, as i do not understand how a mathematical point of eclipse can be seen as a person. Now both of these teachings are from the North Indian tradition, which i happened upon due to subscribing to a Jyotish List run by Benjamin Collins whose Jyotish Guru is KN RAO, and who (Rao i mean) used to write regularly for the list, his observations and teachings, and another from the SJVC, as well as originally a Jyotish list run by Goravani Das, whose Rolls Royce of a program i also have...incidentally Goravani Jyotish program also will give the same information as the Sri Jagannatha Hora program...but again both are from the North Indian tradition, which i am a follower of, even though i use south indian charts...weird i know, but it works very well for me...Goravani's Jyotish program does have its flaws in interpretation, but the charts are impeccable. so i do not believe that it is at all fair for you to just dismiss the information i gave with a cutting statement, like "your Jyotish program must be off"... if you choose to follow the south Indian Raman tradition that is fine for you, but it is not proper to insist that it alone is the "correct" one, and that the North Indian Jyotishis are all WRONG. Not only that, but Prasannan's own Jyotish program gave the exact same results for my birth chart as both Goravani Jyotish and Sri Jagannatha Hora's results. Thus i have no idea where you get the idea that it is "off", just because it doesn't agree with your version of things....what Jyotish program are you using, and what ayanamsha are you using?...that might explain the difference. Nevertheless it is entirely unnecessary to write in such an unkind and dismissive manner as you did in reference to information which i spent some time acquiring and sharing with members of the list in friendship and a desire to be of some help. i would expect that one of the marks of a "highly advanced" student of Amma's should be the words of loving kindness with which he/she would treat other students, rather than the cutting remarks which i see daily exchanged on this list and on the free speech zone by some few of the members. perhaps i am naive to hope for this, but i believe that if we cannot be kind to one another, then what hope is there for us and for the world...if we Amma's children cannot even treat each other lovingly what to expect for the rest of the people? as for your request that i should try for Iowa, i have looked for Fairfield, (which i imagine is the city you are referring to), and found that Pournimasya begins at 12:24 AM, Monday July 10th (western style) which will still be Sunday the 9th by Vedic style until 5:49 AM at sunrise...and will continue all day until approximately 10:02 PM when Krishna Pratipat will commence (first tithi of the waning moon) thus according to Sri Jagannatha Hora, the entire day of Monday July 10th will be taken up in Pournimasya or Guru Purnima. (Western style day i mean). i trust and pray that this has been of some use to my brothers and sisters. In Amma's Divine Love, and in Her Service, as ever, visvanathan Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! Guest guest
Om Amrtesvaryai Namah! Namaskarams from the look of Amma's Schedule, there are no scheduled city programs for the day of Guru Purnima, if it is indeed observed on the 10th of July....so i imagine it may depend upon where Amma intends to be that day...it looks like a travel day between Mount Pleasant Iowa and Washington D.C. so Amma alone knows just when and where this Guru Purnima will be celebrated. in Her Divine Love, and in Her Service, as ever, visvanathan Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! Guest guest
Visvanathan, Your points are well taken. I can see how the use of a different Ayanamsha could yield a different result. But my opinion/experience is that the exact time of the full moon is an astronomical event as well as an astrological event, so its measurement should be easy to be exact with, as with other astronomical events. Prasannan's program also echoed the same result that the other panchangams I consulted came up with. I had to use Des Moines as the closest city because Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant were not available. I am not using software but consulting traditional panchamgams. I didn't mean to be harsh and dismissive. Sorry if I was or appeared that way. I was probably in a rush and answering many emails. I just know that the event is exactly measurable and not the subject of debate, IMHO and IMHE. It is different than a planet entering into a constellation. Also I never claim to be an advanced sadhak. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Yes, but the Iowa DB will run into the 10th. She could also allow a more private celebration in D.C., but this has no precedent and doesn't feel quite right to me. Hopefully details will come out sooner rather than later, though I suspect that will not be the case and even if they did, they are subject to change. The problem is that Mt. Pleasant is an expensive stop to get to compared to other stops on the Tour, as far as airfare goes, even coming just from Chicago. The train stops there just once a day and I haven't checked into the bus situation. I have driven it several times. The drive back to Chicago was always tough. Just endless corn fields. Very hard to stay awake seeing this when you are exhausted. Jai Maa! Surya - kasi_visvanath Ammachi Thursday, May 18, 2006 12:48 AM Re: Guru Purnima timing....Surya Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!
