However as stated in Dharma sastra like Manu samhitas etc., capital punishment is a must for the criminals who commit murders or for any murderer. It however cannot be used for political considerations, which was apparent in this case of John the Baptist. I am of course not too familiar with John the Baptist story other that what I glimpsed from the bible a very long time ago. ys, Isvara dasa.
