Namah Shivaya.

After tsunami, AMMA's Ashram has been donating fishing boats and nets

to the fishermen who were affected.

Does this indirectly mean that AMMA is not averse to our eating fish?

Ever in AMMA's Service.

It may or may not mean that, who knows? But I don't get that meaning

from that act.

What I see in that action is that Amma is out there to just help the

fisherfolk get back to their old sense of life, she is not trying to

change their dharma and make them vegetarians! if they convert, ok,

else also ok. But my thought is that this incident  does not

automatically say Amma is cool about us eating fish etc!

Amma having come from a fisherfolk community may per se not be

averse to fish etc, but that attitude has nothing to do with this

incident, IMHO, nor with us taking the message that she endorses

fish...... this is IMHO only, the rest is upto you.

The only message I take is this .... unconditional acceptance of all

regardless of their status or differences of lifestyle, opinions,

their belief in Amma etc and embracing them with love and empowering

them to live better.

Jai Ma!

Om Namah Shivaya!

Guru's ways are inscrutable and the instructions Guru gives to one

person is not the same to another person. Guru does not outright

condemn some practice but gently turns that person away from that

habit. As far the fishermen, they have no other way to survive if Amma

outright tells fishing must be banned. Amma once told this point in

connection with protecting the species and the ecosystem,"Fishermen

have no other choice to survive other than fishing and in some areas

vegetarianism is not possible and so people have to live on fishes. So

the nature has to be protected." This does not mean Amma encourages non-

veg food.

There is a story which Amma once told how Guru works. Once a Guru

permitted a shishya to smoke. Guru wouldn't condemn this disciple but

Guru gradually would turn the disciple away from smoking.

She grew up in a fishing village.  She is not going to force vegetarianism on a people who are accustomed to relying on this for their livelihood.

I quite agree with Mahamuni Das' observation. Amma has not imposed

anything on anyone; although she does so when it comes to the

ashramites who have gone to Her for the specific purpose of training.

On the other hand, one cannot fail noticing that Amma is a tad lax

where vegetarianism is concerned. In none of Her "Awaken, Children"

and "Eternal Wisdom" has She insisted on vegetarianism. And in one

of them She has, even, been reported to have forcefeed Ramakrishna

Swamy with a piece of fish. And it is also common knowledge that

Amma Herself eats fish when She goes to Mauritius.

Amma has to re-look at vegetarianism very seriously!

I think that Amma is well aware of vegetarianism and is doing what She wants to do regarding it.

I asked Her a couple of years back if She felt I was missing anything in my diet by not having fish or eggs in there.  She told me that the Brahmin caste often eats the same and that they were amongst the most intelligent people in India.  She also said, if I wanted to eat fish or eggs sometimes I could do as I saw fit.

As far as Amma's personal diet, I don't think it is "common knowledge" to most people and really shouldn't be the subject of discussion in this forum, IMHO.  Amma deserves whatever little privacy She has and we are in no place to judge or interpret what She may do regarding things like diet, etc.

This is my sentiment as well.  I slightly disagree that it is

inappropriate to discuss it in this forum.  Amma's life is an open

book.  A Mahatma's every action can be open to scrutiny.  Hush Hush

is not the way around Mahatma's

Nevertheless I agree that it is not common knowledge.

In addition please realize that Amma has said that Mahatma;s can

To be fair, that wasn't about vegetarianism as much as it was teaching some lessons about

aversions and accepting Amma's prasad, whatever form it may take, with true gratitude.

(As I recall, anyway....it's been awhile since I read that one!)

Why would you think that Amma does not have any private life or that She does not deserve some privacy?  Just curious.  All may answer this.

Should we insist on being in the room when Amma bathes or dresses or goes to the bathroom or sleeps or eats or takes a little time for puja, meditation, etc?  I don't believe so.

this is only this little lost childs faith.this child does not believe that

his AMMA would keep anything from him or any of HER children....how can AMMA

be private when SHE IS EVERYWHERE...this is only faith speaking through this

heart.this is the experience of this heart.wherever AMMA is WE ARE.

the seperation is only in the mind and it is unreal...this is this childs

faith...AMMA is in me ,through me and around me.where is the privacy

then?...again this is only this childs faith...that is an individual

experience of the heart...no one has to accept this..

AMMA has said to even visualize HER form while being in the

bathroom....where is the privacy?...AMMA has said to see HER in everyone and

everything..where is the privacy?

how can we say that AMMA is within us and then confirm HER having a

private life?reading HER bio with an OPEN HEART gives you the sense that

everything SHE has is yours..what child in their innocence contemplates

their MOTHER as having a private life?

where is the privacy where DIVINE LOVE is concerned?MOTHER says that SHE IS

LIKE SUNSHINE.where is the privacy in the sun rays.the sun just shines.from

time to time a cloud may block the light of the sun ,however that cloud is

but the mind.to say that AMMA has or needs a private life is to place HER on

my level...

again this is not this childs opinion.this is this childs faith..your

perspective is just as important...thankyou my dear brother..

also dear brother.when you make comments about being present when AMMA is

dressing ,you are associating HER with ONLY her body..again it is a question

of faith ,because in all honesty, if AMMA is dressing right now, this child

believes that he and ALL of HER childen are right there in HER HEART...

AMMAs sun is open minded ,however he will not move from this belief .

AMMAs sun prays with all of his heart that these words find a warm place in

someones elses...

I am obviously not talking about the Amma who is the Paramatman/Divine

Mother of the Universe.  I am talking about Her physical body this

incarnation.

I respect your belief brother and I understand what you are trying to say,

but still the other is quite valid.

Amma may say to visualize Her form and do your mantra while you are in the

bathroom, but I have never heard Her say visualize Her in the form of Her

going to the bathroom.

There is a reason why Amma's flight schedule, room number, etc are not

public information.  I would think all of this would be obvious, but I guess

not.

dear beloved brother.please help this child to see how focusing on AMMAs

privacy in a bathroom will help this child, or you for that matter  grow

spiritually ,which is AMMAs greatest concern according to HER ..  AMMAs sun

values what you are sharing, however, please help this child see the ESSENCE

of what you are saying.... do you really believe in your heart that AMMA

wants us to focus on not knowing HER flight skedule,or not being in the

bathroom with HER? how significant is this really?do you not believe that

SHE would much rather have us place our attention on HER OMNIPRESENCE...and

the truth that SHE IS with us always..?

we are brothers and this child does not mind conversing about this.you are

dear to me ,knowing you are HER precious child...wherever AMMA is HER

childen are ....thankyou my beloved brother das...you have helped this

childs awareness expand...

AMMAs sun prays that he has served his brother effectively...

Dear Temba,

I was at Amritapuri last summer, when a man tried to stab Amma. Amma's response was

basically, "Let him come and kill me, if he wants" and "I will not leave this body until I

decide." At that time, security measures were set in place at the ashram. At one point,

someone asked, "Why do we need security at the ashram, in light of Amma's message to

us?" Swamiji replied that, while Amma will give her children darshan regardless of any

threats, it is our dharma to do what we can to protect and serve this body of hers.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that we focus on Amma's privacy in the bathroom over

and above our spiritual growth....but those two things need not be mutually exclusive.

Blessings,

Iswari
