Hi,

 

You have to draw a line North-South through the stars on the extremity of

Ursa Major, the great bear or Saptarishi constellation, that is the 2

stars which are at the end of the square formed in there, and project that

line onto the zodiac. How exactly it works I don't really know, but

apparently that line should be moving along the zodiac with the pace of

100 years per nakshatra.

Thanks for the reply. I had understood as much. The reason for my question is

which is the star that is presently in Saptharshi now? I'm trying to put the

date on the Mahabhartha War as per the Puranas. According to the Vishnu and

Bhagavatha Puranas the star Magha was in saptharshi when Parikshit (son of

Abhimanyu) was ruling and that 1500 years elapsed between him and the Nandas

before Kautilya overthrew the Nandas. The general agreement is that

Chandragupta Maurya was in 325 BCE and the Nandas were ruling for about 100

years before him.This means the star presently in Saptarshi should be 24

nakshatras away frm Magha. Does this date tally with the present star in

saptharshi?
