A Gem could be heavily included but never flawed. The Inclusions of different crystals alter the intrinsic quality of the gemstone and therefore, changes the results that we expect out it. In that sense, it is not useful for Astrology. If we could study, how the inclusions change the character of the gemstone, perhaps we could use them effectively too. However, I wouldn't call them dead or flawed. It would be disrespectful to say so, in my view. Chrysoberyls also come with such clarity, but the translators also changed that to Cat's Eye. A gemstone is considered as flawed when it has cracks, acid, magma etc in them. Someone was gifted a flawed ruby with the "cotton wool" effect in the gemstone. No two guesses as to what he began to suffer from until I told him to take it off immediately. In some, you can see the quartz is crystal clear/clean and it is rutilated with pyrite. In this case, recommend it as Venus - Mars combination. A beautiful Ruby I had, had red garnet crystal entrapped in there. With the naked eye, it is considered as flawless, but magnified at 80 times, you can make out the "alien/uparatna" in it. To me, this is already a gemstone whose virtues maybe nullified. But is it? Gems classified as flawless, like in the marketing of diamonds is identified for its flaws with a 10x loupe. The shastras do not say that we have to do this, possibly because an eye clean material is accepted as "flawless". It takes 1 year to create 1 carat of gem. The slower the cooling process, the more beautiful, the crystalisation. A flawed gem in the shastra are those especially with trasa/magma; cloudy/milky ones etc. So why is it they say to avoid those flawed crystals, and you say it is not flawed? I am saying since Gems are made by mother nature and its processes, they are sacred. It is amazing how a few chemicals move together to form such brilliant Gems. To call them flaws is to say the Nature does not know how to do its work. Furthermore to call them "dead" is to defile them and it is disrespect to Ma Shakti (divine mother and the entire creation). I fully agree that those with more inclusions than necessary should not be used for astrology. I also agree that some inclusions can change effects of the gemstone. I also know that Rutile needles inclusions are desired in many cases, especially in star rubies. Perhaps unusuable for Astrological purposes would be the right way of labelling them, instead of the above. However, with Richard, I was only worried of calling them as "Flawed" and "Dead". The whole world may call them flawed, damaged, etc... I wouldn't. A great master once said "Something false does not become true because 6 billion people believe in it". Just wanted to confirm. Your comments reminds me of the Hunch Back of Noitre Dame or the Elephant Man. Both had warped body, but beautiful and gentle minds. This shows the inner nature. But we must understand that lusterless gems are simply that. They do not emanate anything. The purana states that if the gem has that special electric colour like Indra's lightening and it is flawless, even the Devas will find their abode in them. In case you've missed it, I've mentioned it at the conference. But for healers using flawed stones, it is quite different. Their crystals are used - some to project and some not. They are very specific. You've not confirmed if you are healer using gem crystals. If you are, my recommendation is to use a quartz crystal and project that particular colour lighting to use on that patient. Cleansing of your own auric energy and the crystal has to be done after each treatment. It is therefore advisable to have several crystals. But as in any healing, your taking on someone else's karma can be rather depleting to your own prana. Try and restrict to one patient a day and up to 5 patients a week at the most. Those rutiles you have described are very different to the ones I've given as an example. However, Star rubies, sapphires etc., have not been given the green light. One is the Sanskrit version from Nag Publishers and Baroda University. My recent trip added my collections from Parimal Publishers and I try and contra the Sanskrit verses. Parimal has them in both texts. My current readings are both Bhramavaivarta Purana (lots of stotras and jyotish related remedies in there) and Vishnu Purana (currently on the energies of Rudra etc., to get a feeling/meaning into this wrt gems. I've also revealed some whilst in Delhi from the Narasimha Purana - Nag Publishers). While some of the texts do not concur with the one from B. Uni........The late Devi Chand's translations are literal translations too. One of the misgivings of a non jyotisha's translation :| (no offence intended here to anyone). If you are thinking of the Banarsidass Publications (diabolical command of the English language), there are very many mistakes in there, so you will need to verify or contra them with the Sanskrit version. So do take heed. In any case with my return in Mar/Apr, if I do find other interesting publications, I shall keep you informed. The natural healing abilities in you (and you've shown the deeper meanings in the shastras to us in Delhi) indicates the Sun (more than likely in a friendly sign) and Ketu's link with it. If not in the rasi, it must be there in navamsa. Please share your chart with me off line. I would appreciate it. Besides the quality and the flaws, gems are living entities. There are souls in them. So this is what is meant by a living or a dead gem. A gem with a flaw is usually dead, as the body is unable to carry the soul any more. But there will be good effect only from a living gem, which was obtained in a righteous way. For example many of the large gems in the British crown were snatched from Indian temples. So a gem stolen from the Deity is highly inauspicious, therefore we can suspect that this has helped the destruction of the British Empire. How can one decide that the gem is living or dead? Usually you feel it. You will have a strong attraction towards a living gem, while the dead one is not so attractive, similarly to the body. When its living, its attractive, when its dead, tis repulsive. Of course a ince gemstona can also be dead in some cases, or even worse than that, loaded with bad karma, if the previous owners committed sins. Coming to living or dead. None are dead. They could be either be alive by the dieties or by others. Some are weak (but not dead) such that they cannot give the desired result. Only a person who is pure minded can feel the vibrations of a Gemstone. Same goes for Idols. I had a very rare idol of Lord Shiva, doing tandava and playing his Damru. Both his eyes are closed, but the 3rd eye is open. First of all, it was as if the Idol wanted to come with me because whenever I passed the showroom in Kathmandu, I would just stand dazed in front of it. The owner charged much more, but I couldn't help resisting. Such a powerful depiction of Shiva has to be worshipped in a proper temple. I finally selected the purohit of Kedarnath Temple and asked him to worship the same with complete Therefore, I refrain from calling anything dead. The whole universe is alive and in vibration. Guest guest Posted February 13, 2006 Report Share Posted February 13, 2006 dear friends i too echoed similar sentiments earlier. swee and her website have posted tomes of information related to astrology freely and her gems section is the most detailed and i too learnt a lesson or two freely from their site. all member astrologers can engage another member in a discussion or debate but it shall be academic and not personal. for example, i have been consistent of my finding mention of ruby in NUMEROUS holy scriptures but not so corroborative for others. i have been asking about more references in holy scriptures to link stones to planets and thank richard and swee for sharing thier knowledge. coming to business of gems, as rightly observed by all members in this thread, there is no wrong in selling a gem. in most temples in south india, for having a glimpse of the diety a free darshan is from a distance, normal ticket means closer, costlier ticket means even closer, much more money means entry into the sanctum sanctorum. even seeing god has become business and yet no one complains even though this practice is unheard in the entire northern parts of the country where most holiest places are located. in saravali, kalana verma clearly says in 2nd chapter 5th verse "Artharjane sahaya" means learning astrology would help a native to earn money. all astrologers take a dakshina and one can term it as fees or doing business. as once respected dakshinamoorthiji said we are all in the pravritti marga since we are spending money on net. my personal fraternal request to all members is to throw more light on the subject and not on the members. one can ask 101 questions to swee, richard or any member but not spew vitriol. all are great astrologers. if the criticisng member has 100 successful satisfied testimonials from his customers, i am sure swee must be having 1000 with her. with my clairvoyance i can say swee has a much more wider reach and recognition than the criticising members and hereby i give her my best wishes in her continued research and knowledge sharing. i further appreciate her maturity by not matching words with the critics. with best wishes and regards arjun vedic astrology, "lakshmikary" <lakshmikary wrote: > > Hare Krishna > Dear friends, > I'm just entering the thread - For those who dont know. When we talk about life or lack of it in gems what are we really saying? we are defining parameters of "Jyotish Quality Gems". This "life" is the essence to the use of gems in remedial jyotish. Without this "life", gems are just left with ornamental value. Yes, you get chemical properties in each gem variant and yes you have color therapy at work but their is MORE to wearing gems that have "life" in them , and it is this "more" that actually works miracles by inviting the deity associated to grace the gem. All fine gems have brilliant faceting, maximum color, flawless clarity and significant carat weight- all this put together makes them a fine quality gem, but to qualify to be called a "jyotish quality gemstone", it has to be more...It has to all of the above qualities naturally, it has to be free from prior use (which makes the gem carry wearer's karma, good or bad) to give sweet netural and saattvic feel. Sri. Gauranga ji most accurately calls this the "inviting" effect as a result of "life" of the gem. For example, for those of you who know a little bit about gems, all blue topaz is commercially enchaned white topaz that is heavily used in ornaments today, if you try and feel it you will feel a repulsive effect that is almost Rahu like; cause- the radiation treatment method to change the color from white to blue ( or other shades for that matter). Similarly, treatments like glass filings (specially in emeralds), heating (quartz, topaz), diffusion (corundum), oiling (feldspar, agates, beryl), re-construction (coral, turquoise), thermal enhancements etc leave the gems empty in its "auric" value and lifeless therefore not fit for Jyotish use.
