This occurs primarily because the net is being used as a forum for publishing research, which is ideally done in books, journals and as monographs. The net is best suited as an information warehouse, rather than as as repository of knowledge. I have also seen many people doing 'research' from the web for their papers; dubious as sources and scholars are not known. Perhaps people should be re-schooled into reading books and going to libraries. This means time and energy. Unfortunately there are no short-cuts to knowledge . That is the reason why when I requested about information on Mahabharata, all I got was links and more links which frustrated me no end :| Unfortunately, the abridged version which was given to me by my brother, over 20 years ago (little did I realize that one day I am to realise its importance) is only good for some things, though re-reading them opened up new avenues with regards to jyotish.
