Guest guest
Respected Jyotish scholars, Namaste. I was recently trying to understand the "Jaimini's method of three pairs" to determine the approximate range of one's longevity. I went through the chapter on this subject in following three books: * "Jaimini Sutras" - By Bangalore Suryanarain Rao and revised and annotated by Dr. B.V.Raman (Adyaya 2- Pada 1) * "Finer Techniques of Astrological Predictions" (Vol.1) [page 110] written under the guidance of Mr. K.N.Rao · * "Vedic astrology: An integrated Approach" by Mr. PVR Narasimha Rao (page 158). It seems that there are some major opinion differences between above three authors. I may be wrong and may have mis-interpreted their text. I earnestly seek help from honourable learned members of this forum, who are well-versed with Jaimini sutras, in this regard. The find the opinion differences between above mentioned authors as follows: (a) In making three pairs: The First pair: * "Lagna and Moon" (as per Mr. K.N.Rao) * "Lords of Lagna and Chandra-lagna" (as per Dr. B.V.Raman,) * "Moon and Saturn" (as per Mr. PVR Narasimha Rao) While Shri K.N. Rao ji has advocated the use of "Sign in Lagna" and "Sign in Moon-Lagna" (perhaps, I may be wrong); Dr. B.V. Raman uses words "Lords of Lagna and Chandra-lagna" in Sutra-6 & 7 of his book "Jaimini Sutras". (I translate his words as "Posited signs of Lords of Lagna and Chandra-lagna"). Mr. PVR Narasimha Rao writes altogether new combination here, that is, "Moon and Saturn". He has used Saturn instead of Lagna. He is a very learned modern Jyotish scholar and I would be grateful if he may find time to give reasons for deviating from other authors. The Second pair: * "Lagna lord and 8th lord" There is no opinion difference between the three authors in this regard. All of them have used the words as " Lagna lord and 8th lord". The Third pair: * "Lagna and Hora-lagna" (as per Shri K.N.Rao and Shri PVR Narasimha Rao) * "Lagna-lord and Hora-lagna lord" (as per Dr. B.V.Raman, in Sutra-6) I think, Mr. K.N.Rao and Mr. PVR Narasimha here means the "Signs of Lagna and Hora-lagna". But, while reading Sutra-6 of Dr. B.V. Raman's "Jaimini Sutras", I get impression of using the "posited signs of lords of Lagna and Hora-lagna". (b) When Moon is in the Lagna or 7th House: The other major difference in opinion is encountered when Moon is in the Lagna or the 7th House. Mr. K.N. Rao's book says "when Moon is in Lagna or the 7th house, ONLY Lagna and Hora Lagna should be taken into account". (I interpret it that if Moon is in 1st 7th house, we should ignore results of other two pairs totally even if both of them are giving similar results and is in majority. ONLY the result given by the pair of Lagna and Hora Lagna signs would be applicable). But, Mr.PVR Narasimha Rao says that "if two pairs give one result and the third pair gives a different result, then the result given by two pairs dominates". According to him, if all the three pairs give different results, then, normally we should give preference to Lagna and Horalagna BUT if Moon is in Lagna or the 7th House, then the second pair of Moon and Saturn should be given preference. Dr. B.V.Raman (in Sutra-9).says "If Chandra is in the 7th from Janma Lagna then the longevity obtained from the lord of these two (??) must be taken as the definite term of a man's life". From this sentence, it seems that he does not consider the Moon in 1st house at all. He considers Moon in 7th only. I shall be cordially grateful for clarifications and assistance. With best regards, Shyaam Sunder Kansal http://www.vjyotish.com
