Horoscope matching is one method of matching for compatibility and teamwork . Marriage matching existed even in the ancient periods . Swayamvar was one of the ways . Raja Janak was worried how would Seeta get a suitable match and that is why the condition of lifting the shivdhanush was put up . The idea being that the one who could lift and use it , will be powerful enough to look after Seeta . Coming to horoscope matching as this is an astrology forum . We keep talking about Free will and fixed destiny and the interplay within them . Generally it is agreed that a part of our life is fixed and a part is changeable . How much is fixed , what is fixed , how much is changeable , are the nitty gritties we need not get into right now . Given this even if you consider our destiny is fixed , marriage matching gives us the choice to choose the one we will walk with . I am going to the movie . I have one more ticket . Whether I go with Tom , Dick or Harry is my choice ( albeit with their consent ) . I will tend to choose one who likes the type of movie *and * whose company I enjoy . This is what we attempt to do in marriage matching . As it is said , that you may be able to teach turky to climb a tree , but it is far easier to let the squirrels do it . We are looking for squirrels when we are doing marriage matching . We try to keep clashes to a minimum shadashtak ) , do not depend too much upon complacency ( navapancham ) , look for communication ( sextile ) avoid direct confrontation ( opposition ) and so on thus trying to make the sum more than the parts . lvnagarajan Posted April 10, 2008 Report Share Posted April 10, 2008 Namaskar to all. I have seen a few comments on the subject of horoscope matching for matrimony. At best astrology, I believe, is a pseudo-science which can predict only the tendencies. It may work well as a caution/encouragement before a major decision in life and also as consolation after any major failures in life. I personaly do not like astrologers playing GOD by making drastic predictions without any consideration for the subject involved. Coming to matrimonial matching, I feel this is a most unscientific practice imposed by our tradition on the otherwise intelligent Hindu community. It is often a practice for the bride and groom parties to consult different astrolgers and very very rarely they agree on matching of horoscope due to different mathodologies employed for matching. There are a lot of half-cooked amature astrolgers who rule out so many prospective matrimonial matches more as a safe exit for thier lack of deeper knowledge. There is no standardisation: a) in charting the horoscopes, b) in matching the horoscopes c) in agreeing on different kinds of so-called doshas and their pariharas. There is no accredition of astrolgers by any higher hindu religious and spiritual organisation, which leads to lot of imperfections that get passed on to future generations also. Most people are losing faith on matrimonial horoscope matching because of the above weaknesses in the system. To restore faith in the system we need to do the following: 1. Introduce a method of accredition of astrolgers 2. Standardise methods of matrimonial Matchings 3. Prove effectiveness of such matches by conducting case studies on - Horoscopes of couples already married and having a successful married life - Horoscopes of couples already married and marriage having failed - Horoscopes of couples already married and having minor marital problems This will also help standardising matching methods. Otherwise, boys and girls look for themselves their matches good or bad. Or most often they marry outside our Hindu community. Now I leave this issue for nobler minds.
