dear friend david

rudrabhishekam is generally done on monday mornings to a shivling by

reciting namakam-chamakam (rudram) while doing abhishekam to the

shivling followed by the standard poojas and upacharas. besides

monday, sivaratri day is also auspicious for lord shiva which falls

a day before amavasya every month. doing rudrabhishekam on eleven

mondays continuously is the best. on mahasivaratri day (26th

March,2006) ekadasa rudrabhishekam (recital of namakam eleven times)

is perforemd in all shiv temples across the world. participation in

this is advised for all in thier local neighbourhood shiv mandir on

that day.

even though few hymns from rudram were mentioned in Rigveda, the

complete text and full details are given in the yajurveda. as you

may be aware, sage yajnavalkya bifurcated the yajurveda into two

viz. shukla (white) yajurveda and the krishna (black) yajurveda.

while shukla yajurveda is famous in the northern parts of india,

krishna yajurveda is famous in the southern parts of india. this

krishna yajurveda contains taittareeya samhita which contains these

rudra mantras. this is made available in sanskrit, hindi and

english versions by all leading publishers e.g. motilalbanarsidas.

the same is also posted freely both audio and text versions, in

various sites. there are some dedicated groups on lord shiva like

the following which discuss on various shiv mantras besides making

them available.

/

each of the eleven anuvakam (hymn) of rudram is assigned with

bringing relief to a particular problem. in other words, rudram

contains the mantras for solving all kinds of problems of a native.

in praise of lord shiva and with best wishes and regards

arjun
