Guest guest
Om Namh! Shivaya! Respected Gurujans and Learned members, I had couple of questions on the ShastiPoorthi Celebrations that is done when the male reaches 60 years of age in India. a) Does this celebration need to be accomplished before the person turns 60? b) If any untoward incident occurs during this period ( before the shanti is done) like death of a family member, then can this shanti still be done after the 13th day shraddh? or do we have to wait for a year to proceed with the regular activities? c) If we have to wait for a year then the person would have crossed 60 years of age and will this shanthi have any effect or meaning? If you give me information or point towards it, I will be grateful. With Regards /Akash...
Guest guest
Dear Shri. Akash, Shashti Aptha Poorthi is done on the completion of 60th birth day. It is almost like a samskara and so just as aptha poorthi (1st anniversary) of a child, it can be done after the 13th day shraddh. You need not wait for one year before performing it as this is a shanti karma that should be done at the prescribed period preferably for the welfare of the full family. However, if the occasion comes too soon after any untoward incident in the family, it is a tradition to avoid celebrating it in too much of a festive atmosphere and instead concentrate only on the shanti karmas(including abhishekam of the individual concerned with consecrated water after chanting rudram, and other vedic hymns) associated with the occasion. Even if the occasion falls within the 10 day period of ceremonial impurity after an untoward incident, the shasti poorthi can be done, but, on the succeeding birth star, i.e. in the next month. You need not wait for one year of mourning to pass as this is a shanti karma and is definitely good for the full family. Blessed be. >
Guest guest
Om Namh! Shivaya! Sri Dakshinastrologer, Thanks for your illuminating response. Your response has brought me reprieve and hope that the shastipoorthi celebrations can be made in an untoward situation with exceptions. If you can also let me know or point me to the information as to what needs to be done when a person reaches, 60 yrs ( u have already mentioned it), 70, 75, 80 ( Sahasra Chandra Darshana homa?), 90 years? Thanks Again With Regards /Akash.. vedic astrology, "dakshinastrologer" <dakshinastrologer> wrote: > > Dear Shri. Akash, > > Shashti Aptha Poorthi is done on the completion of 60th birth day.
