If you do not have access to a rich-text capable email composing software, you

can now post rich-text messages directly from a 's webpage.

 

Here's how :

 

Step 1 : Go to a 's main webpage, for example :

vedic astrology

 

Step 2 : Click on the "Post" option which can be found at the left margin of the webpage.

 

Step 3 : In the middle of the webpage above the main message window, you should see the sentence :

"New! Compose your message with Rich-Text Editor (Beta)"

 

Step 4 : Click on the hyperlinked text "Rich-Text Editor (Beta)" in this sentence.

 

Step 5 : Have fun composing your rich-text message.

 

Before you start screaming "What does this got to do with astrological

discussion ??!!", let me explain why :

 

Rich-text messages can be used to communicate one's message better than just pure-text ones.

 

Rich-text is not perfect, just slightly better when used sensibly compared to pure-text only.

 

Using the recent Varga Chart debates as an example (which applies to many other

messages posted in general), it is hard to tell :

 

1. The main emphasis or the point of a sentence/message - which may be buried in

long sentences/paragraphs even when pure-text based emphasizing methods were

used, i.e. asterisks, all capital letters, double exclamation marks, ...etc.

 

2. The mood or tone of the message.

 

For example, consider this fictional sentence :

 

"Parasara mentioned in BPHS that when Jupiter is in the Navamsa sign of Libra

and aspecting Navamsa Saturn, then the native's spouse is said to be

knowledgeable and religious !!"

 

There are 1001 ways to misinterpret the emphasis or point of this

sentence/message and the emotions involved depending one's guess of which is

the key word(s) and the emotions :

 

- are the keywords "IN the Navamasa", thus justifying Parasara's implication

that Navamsa is a chart ?

- is the keyword "BPHS" because it was all in capital letters ?

- is the keyword "aspecting" thus justifying the use of aspects in navamsa which

implies Navamsa can be treated as chart ?

- did the double exclamation marks indicate shouts of anger in fustration or

shouts of joy in realisation ?

 

After 6-7 or more long email replies later, members then found out that both the

originator of this sentence and the persons replying misunderstood each other's

point based on the wrong assumption of the keyword(s) or emotions in the

original topic-starting post.

 

To make things worse, each of these reply (based on the wrong assumption of the

previous reply) creates futher misunderstandings while trying to clarify

themselves.

 

Ultimately, the final conclusion is the familiar "to each his own", "everyone

still insisting on their own views", "I shall not reply any more to this

topic", ...etc.

 

Hopefully this post will create more awareness for members to communicate

slightly more effectively with one another with the help of rich-text.
