Namaste Isabella,

We should all be reminded that the Mayan culture had already

disappeared by the time the Spanish came to the Americas. At that

time, a certain Bishop Landa was collecting the history and language

of the Mayas. He himself attempted to translate the Mayan language.

However, he also determined that the Mayan texts that he had in his

possession contained many subjects that were contrary to his

Christian beliefs. As such, he burned most of the Mayan texts.

To a certain extent, we are fortunate to have some texts preserved

since he sent one or two original Mayan manuscripts to the Spanish

king at the time.

I too am fascinated by the Mayan language which is based on

pictographs. Most recently, an American linguist has been able to

decipher the Mayan texts through his research of available evidence

and interviews with the descendants of the Mayas who are still living

and speaking a form of the original language in the Yucatan Peninsula.

For speculations regarding the culture, you should read Zeccharia

Sitchin's book about the Mayas. He is saying that the Mayan culture

was derived from advanced extraterristrials who had visited and lived

on earth millions of years ago. These same visitors were the ones

who influenced the cultures of Mesopotamia and Egypt.

Regards,

John R.
