Dear Lakshman Ji

Well i agree to your points except one point.

>Once a brahmin starts to drink, he has lost his brahminism unless

>he has done a praayachitta and has absolved himself of the sins.

The above sentence holds good only for the brahmins who are priests

and to certain sects who are involed in priestly services. We cant

generalise to all sub-castes of brahmins like the brahmins who are

involved in Rajarik duties.I mean who work in the posts of

Ministers, poets, personal assistants to the King, the village or town

karanam(head),tehsildaars,landlords,zamindaars etc.These posts

involve drinking as a social-custom right from our Raja's &

Maharajas.Kings,Ministers use to drink and we are aware they use to

enjoy the services of the davadasis also.

Lot of people come into this ambiguity due to their inability to

segregate these sects and understand their identity.Drinking is not

a sin.You can take the example of 'Indra' who enjoys drinking and is

considered one of the successful.Like this we can quote numerous

examples from our puranas.Yes, drinking is sin when a priest or

person related to priestly services or a person related to temple

services drinks.

Hope you got my point.

Dear Sunil ji Namaste,

As i have said this is a highly debatable topic and

not every one will agree with other's views. This I

had already mentioned. Plus I mentioned thus because

the context was to donate to a drunken Brahmin or a

poor deserving person. Now people who occupy high

posts and socialize necessarily do not need donations.

I leave the topic of drinking is not a sin as I am not

an authority on the subject. However one thing

certainly I know is it is a Tamasik addiction and it

reduces your intellectual abilities.

excuse me if I have offended in any way.

Cheers,

Lakshman

Dear Lakshman Ji,

Namasthe,

Their is nothing much to debate on this topic it is purely one's

ability to understand,distinguish different cultures,sects,sub-sects

& people.Their is hardly any space for the perceptual differences.

Yes, I agree with you, certainly the donation/daanam has to go to a

person who is in the profession of performing vaidhik-

dharam/priest/monk. & This depends upon ones inteligence in

identifying the deserving person for donation/daanam.

> I leave the topic of drinking is not a sin as I am not

> an authority on the subject.

>Once a brahmin starts to drink, he has lost his brahminism unless

>he has done a praayachitta and has absolved himself of the sins.

Just to convey you,The two above sentences by you from your two

mails are contradictory to each other.Well Its ok.. i am sure you

got my point.

Warm Regards,
