It is the idea and the emotion within and not the object outside. The Values, knowledge, love that anyone has shared with you is carried by you. You project it to the progenitor of the same, and touch the feet recognizing the same. It is similar as praying in front of the "stone idol". You do not go and say "Hey stone! Bless me" but you go and say "Hey Lord! Bless me". The ability to see Lord in an idol cannot be called praying to a stone! The feet and the big toes are looked upon as the exit way for the soul after death. The soul is said to again reach the feet of god afterwards. In Vedic-astrology the 12th house represents as one of the moksha sthaanaa.12th house for a kaal purush is the Pisces & represents the Feet, Toes, Lymphatic System, Bones of Feet and Toes.These body parts might be related to moksha.
