Guest guest
Namaste Energumen, I remember reading this interview a month and half back. It was a very inspiring interview. The man is a legend and made tremendous contribution to Jyotisha. To remain a bachelor for the entire life and lead a simple and spiritual life without any bad habits is not something everybody can do. I was touched when I read what he wrote regarding his weakness for tea (I myself am trying to give up tea and have not had it in a few months now). One would have to be blessed to lead a simple, pious and spiritual life like him. Of course, when it comes to technical matters, there are several issues where I disagree with him. The Parasari vs Jaimini distinction you refer to below is definitely one thing where I totally disagree with him. However, despite disagreements, I must say that he is a blessed man and led an exemplary life and there are MANY lessons to learn from him. I hope his health is good. Based on annual TP chart, June and first half of July seem bad. I hope he is doing ok. May he be blessed with good health and a long life! On a different note, I am thankful I read this interview because reading this interview led to a chain of events - which I cannot explain here - which led to my discovering that Drigdasa calculations I taught in my book and programmed in JHora were wrong and Parasara's teachings had some differences from what Sanjay ji taught me. Sanjay ji could reconcile with Parasara's teachings and he actually made more sense of it than I could. He, as usual (to him), brilliantly explained a couple of points that seemed odd to me (but unambiguously stated by Parasara). It was this interview that set off a chain of events that resulted in a more correct understanding of Drigdasa! Thanks to Sri KN Rao for indirectly enabling a better understanding of Drigdasa.. Guest guest
Dear Narasimha Ji, Dear Friends, There is not a single doubt about the greatness of Shri K.N.Rao, both as a a great Jyotish scholar, and also as a very notable character. I was fortunate enough to meet him in person and be his guest in Delhi and get personal readings from him, he indeed is a fine gentelman and is highly spiritual, almost a Yogi. The interesting side of his approach to Jyotish, is that, even though he is very well versed in the Shastras, he prefers to do research (e.g. to test the validity of, by example charts) on everything inclusive of, if I am not mistaken, the basic teachings of the Maharishis. His books also as far as I could see, do not rely heavily on the Shastras, rather reflect the findings of his extensive research. E.g. his research does not seem to validate the shastras in general, but arrive at some new rules of prediction. I am in no position to judge the approach of such a great scholar as Shri K.N.Rao, I am mentioning about an alternate but more traditional approach. My humble view is that; each Schloka e.g. in BPHS, give us an absolute truth on Jyotish, and when we try to apply these schlokas on a given chart, we oftentimes run into contradicting results or indications. But we should realize that Jyotish itself, or rather the Jyotish chart, is a simplification of the infinite variety found in life. The riddle is solved when we apply as many as applicable schlokas on a given chart and judge a result based on taking into account the sum total of indications given. Again in my humble view, to gather together a series of charts, where the innumerable variables possible in a chart is the exact same, is, if not impossible, not so easy and practical. If a chart seems to contradict with a schloka, it is highly probable that some other schlokas that are applicable explain the situation. Furthermore, I was taught, and am of the view that, the use, application and repetition of each schloka in time activates a specific function in the brain. When the Jyotishi learns and is well versed in the application of many schlokas, the end result is that in time the functioning of the brain changes slowly towards acquiring Jyotish Siddhi, while this ability of course is not easy to attain and depends on other factors as well. As a result, personally I do not see any practical gain in trying to verify the teachings of the Maharishis, or derive new rules, but rather to use the schlokas to enhance our insight and understanding into charts. We should also not forget that the teachings of the Maharishis has withstood the test of time. Best wishes, Sabri. vedic astrology, "Narasimha P.V.R.
