Guest guest
om namo bhagavate venkatesāya Dear Sanjay, I have the following comments/questions: (1) Do you advocate a dual definition for marana sthana of Mercury? That is, Me in 4th and 7th both be considered as marana sthana. (2) The definition for marana sthana in Jataka Parijata [JP] falls in the kalachakra dasa adhyaya where the primary reference is to the dasa rasi. Here I am making the comment that perhaps the context where the shloka is placed gives some clues about the nature of the definition. In such a context, the *tentative* explanation advanced by you for marana sthana of Me makes sense. But every planet except Rahu and the luminaries also lord 2 signs so why is a similar approach not adopted when explaining the marana sthana position for the other four planets? Is it that only Me can be dual while the others cannot be dual? (3) Two other shlokas in the 2nd adhyaya of JP also single out the position of Me in 4th. The first of these shlokas comes right after listing out the primary karakas for the twelve bhavas while the 2nd deals with the potential (fruitful or barren) effect of Me in such a position. In this context, I think that Me in 4th is indicative of karaka bhava naashya principle or positions where the primary karakas do not function effectively. I also think that in this way, JP has made a clear distinction between the ability to function as a primary karaka versus the situation that forces the planet to discharge a particular karakatwa whereby the natural karakatwas suffer in the process. (4) You suggested that the classical reference for the marana sthana definition of Me in 4th is Jataka Tatva. I don’t have access to Jataka Tatva so could you please provide the relevant shloka and the context in which it is quoted? Best regards Hari om namo bhagavate vāsudevāya Dear Utpal and Chandrasekhar ji I have consistently held that there are two opinions about the marana sthana of Mercury - perhaps because of the peculiar dualistic nature of Mercury. Look at its houses - Gemini is the most impure indicating prostitution and what not all evils and look at Virgo the purest of the pure. Perhaps the marana sthana has to do with these two houses unlike the other planets. Perhaps the marana sthana of Mercury in the 7th house related to Virgo where the purity or *virginity* of the virgin is lost and the 4th house relates to the marana sthana for Gemini where the avidya and evil comes to an end due to home. In fact youngsters are always concerned or *controlled* by the awareness or some fear of home - parents. Tired of spam?
